Zombies and axe

I can't seem to fight these these effectively. I have tried backpedalling while swinging but that doesn't land hits. If I stop then I can hit them but they always hit me, and I bleed every single time. Is there something I'm missing? I can't hide in trees and I can't go indoors since like the mod (don't seem to walk like the mod). A gun would be great but that's loud...plus I haven't found the stuff I need yet.

Its just clunky Melee mechanics and the zombies are being re-worked from the ground up so hopfully it wont be so hard to bash a zombie in the head and kill it... should be in a patch eventually...

The axe now hits where the head connects.

go into first person, and you can tell where your axe is going and ajust acordingly (fail spelling)

 

BTW, the pistol is very quiet. loot some firestations!

Put that tiny dot on the zombies forehead when you swing that axe. Works for me.

I just run around them and mash the mousebutton...works against 1 zombie or 10 for that matter. Just make it bigger ring u circle them with if there are many of them.

Circle them and swing to the left of their head. They won't hit you and you'll kill them.

Also found that this works:

If you see another survivor, just run past him and the zombie aggrieved will transfer to him. Leaving you free to kill the zombie or just go about your business.

Awesome, the circles thing works. Thanks guys. I also found the splitting axe a bit harder to use than the fire axe.

Some things to know before going in meelee attack.

 

FIRST. Meeleeattacks wont hit where your cross(dot, whatever its called) is.

           They Hit there were the baseballbat/axe is swinging to or hittin. so always aim a little higher or even go in ego-perspective.

           Try it on a tree. you will hit him in the side.

 

SECOND. thats one thing i noticed myself but hard to explane.

                ok lets imagine you have a flashlight in your hands. you have to hit the spacebar to raise and lower it.

                ok lets say you have raised it. if you now take your axe out , your char will hold it right up in the air. i have problems to hit in that position.

                if you now hit spacebar again ( lower your weapen) you will hold the axe a little to the left. NOW its very easy to land a hit ( at least for my experiences). works with baseball the same.

Do people really have that much trouble with melee combat?

Interesting, i just click on them, and they fall down. I have never experienced hitting the air or something like that

if you hold in upper position you will connect to your right side. If you hold in lower position you connect where your crosshair is aiming for the most part. Always orient whatever you are trying to hit a little to your right.
