I thought I heard something that sounded like a Shotgun today. Is that more likely to be a Mosin?

Seconded. Get off the coast.

 

Played DayZ for the first time yesterday and remembered reading this and just ran as far away from the coast as possible, I ended up being almost fully geared in about 3 hours of play time, plenty of food, water, clothes, millitary gear, guns and ammo. I was also on a lower pop server at the time.
