Silencers and item condition

Recommended Posts

Hello there. So I've looted the big airport for a couple of times, almost got killed over it (I shot the bastard, but I think he logged off) and found a silencer in one of the tents at the north of it. However, it doesn't seem to do any good as the sound my trusty m4 makes is still the same loud bang. Now, I now in the mod there were special lower powder charge bullets to go with the suppressor, however, after loading up with over 200 556 ammo, I've yet to find a mag or a single round of silencer-friendly ammo. Anyone had any succes with silencers?

Another question I have is about the item condition. What is the treshold when some objects (flashlights, portable lams, etc) become unusable? Ruined is ofcourse logical, but I've had lights stop functioning when they were marked as damaged only. How come?

I wouldn't exactly call it loud. To me, from a shooter's perspective it sounds more like the default sound is the silenced one...

Subsonic 5.56 is generally not used, it often does not have the strength to reliably cycle the action. In addition the 5.56 relies almost entirely on high velocity for its terminal effects, subsonic 5.56 would be very ineffective. It would also have extremely poor ability to penetrate body armor or any barriers. They usually just accept the sonic crack.

Yeah, but I mean in that case, the suppressor is kinda useles? Right now i'd rather have shorter range, but be at least somewhat silent. By the way, why do the suppressor and the bayonet use the same slot? And talking about the bayonet, can you actually use it in combat?

I found a silencer. Its a big sharp metal thing attached to a long wooden pole. All you have to do is swing it at zombies and they die silently. As for suppressors, nah, havent seen any of them in game.

I think it should suppress the gun, but provide little to no in-game disadvantages. It should just be very rare. Some weapons should be better than others, not everything has to have a drawback for each advantage it gives.

Can't use bayonet yet. Haven't got a suppressor either.

My buddy has a silencer, I'll test it with him.  Have him fire a round at 50, 100, 150, 200 meters with it on and see what distance the sound becomes inaudible. Really they are suppressors and not "silencers" . It should reduce muzzle flash so you won't give your position away at night, and though it is still audible you usually have a harder time determining the position of the source because of the dispersion of the sound waves.

My buddy and I have silencers, you quit hearing them about 100m off. But it is so early into the game that I'm not entirely certain when the non-suppressed gunshots become inaudible.

Also, at the moment both of our silencers are in pristine condition so whether or not a worse off suppressor creates a louder noise Im not sure.

What Lorax said, the suppressor on the should suppress the "boom" sound coming from the muzzle but you'll still have the sonic crack which comes out in a cone shape from the BULLET itself (I know this was at least accurate in ArmA 2 and 3). So you'll be hard to locate while using the suppressor and you will have a great advantage, it just won't be silent with regular ammo.

It would also be pretty cool if they added a feature where you could wet the suppressor using a bottle of water on it.  When suppressors are wet it dampens the sound much more.

I haz "worn" suppressor....it makes same noise and it aggro zeds from same distance like if u dont have it. So i guess its pretty much useless other than u look pro.
