So...Is the community usually this terrible?

Recommended Posts

I had just started off, went along my way looking for food and whatnot when I came across a couple of guys. I could hear them talking and they didn't sound like they were looking for trouble. Walked up about 20 feet behind them, literally with nothing on me, and simply said "Hey guys, what's up?"

Shot and killed me the moment they turned around. Then went on to say a lot of stuff that would probably get me banned if I repeated it here. Only thing is...I had nothing. Not even a backpack that could have had stuff in it. I was just looking to buddy up with someone...

Did I do something wrong? >_>

Did nothing wrong.

Lots of the community is comprised of loose moral shit stains who consider themselves bandits.

Don't judge us all by the actions of two idiots. :)

Having said that, generally at the moment, it's safer to assume an unknown player is hostile than friendly. There isn't much to do in the current build of the game, and many players are alleviating that boredom by killing others. I'd say that goes double for groups of players, who I almost always avoid unless absolutely necessary.

Still, I like to tell all new players that every death in DayZ is a learning experience, and you just learned your first lesson - not everyone you meet is as friendly as you are. :)

Stay out of sight on encounters. If they cant see you, they can't shoot you.

Also, trust no one.

yup being paranoid keeps you alive m8! and the community is what you yourself create with a couple buddies outside of the game!

teaming up with people ingame is a bad idea!

unless you are thinking about blowing their braines out once they turn around!

Not every bandit nessecarily (i hate that word -_-) kills just for fun or the sports of it.

I used to be friendly like you, always havent killed, always asked (first), always helped, teamed up so often, i remember we both had makarovs and there was a room with an alice pack and a m4 in it (In the mod) and so I thought Id just tell him and give him the stuff, yknow, I was in vacation and thought i could find it later, he mightve had a job and not enough time. Minutes later we were on the street, i shot some zombies off his back, turned around to loot one, turned back to him and saw him aiming his m4 at me, bang i was dead. This is not only that, it happened really FUCKING OFTEN, actually. It actually happened every fucking time ive been friendly to someone. Same with your, oh so friendly "New spawns". Ofcourse i dont kill newspawns, and i dont team up with people asking me to team up but rather go off to keep my loot on but when someone with good stuffs appears and is close to me i take out my gun. Its the cycle of dayz. Youre all nice, friendly, help people, die by them, ignore people die by them, team up with people, die by them, keep away from people, die by them I could go on and on and on. Sooner or later youre downright sick of it, you want to keep your loot, theres a well geared guy close, you got a gun with a full mag or two in your arsenal... And there you are at day 10 with all the loot youd want. How could you survive that long? By not being friendly.

This is kind of the whole point of the entire game guys... The fact that people are more dangerous than zombies and all. It would be pretty boring if everyone was as friendly as you all. Sometimes I'm a bandit, sometimes I'm friendly, it all depends on my needs and what I have to protect :), happy hunting.

You shoul probably have started to talk to them sooner - greater distance apart. Might have spooked them and bam (might have, they might have shot you as well). Thats dayz - thats your story.

not sure why you say Terrible? It is part of the game, if I was geared up I would have probably done the same thing unless you were just coming off the coast line. We like to hold up our enemies instead and take what we need and leave you to find more.... but if you are armed with "anything" that could kill me and I am playing solo without friends, I am not taking the time to see if you are friendly just to lose my gear when I turn around.

If I don't have a gun, I will usually just leave them alone or maybe even follow with them for a bit... because as stated before I really don't have anything to lose if they do attempt to kill me. Being geared up is completely different, most are not willing to risk losing what they have found.

Best advice, trust no one if you have something to lose.

I see a big difference between kos players and bandits.

bandits can be friendly but if they need stuff they will rob you, terrorize you or just torture you a little.

es: yesterday 3 guy approached me, they were fully equipped. They made me take off all my stuff, made me sing songs and at the end they took blood for me and let me there with nothing. They were good Rp playesr, the experience was exceptional and they were clearly "good bandit".

Getting killed in the game is part of the experience, I just hope to see more "good Rp bandits" than kos players that just shot you because they can.

Currently i have not killed anyone unjustly but i have held people up, handcuffed them, and took blood. I did have to shoot one cause i handcuffed him and did not have the keys. He could not figure out how to wiggle out of them so i had to put him down :(

I personally enjoy to be chaotic neutral in this game.  While I usually won't just cap someone for saying hi, experience has taught me there's no such thing as too careful.  Plus, what's the point in being Mr. Nice Guy all the time?  Gets boring after awhile.

I've had some fun playing with a friend where I'm the "bad cop" and he's the "good cop" scaring the new spawns but ultimately letting them go and with a bit of gear if we have some extra.  Sometimes I like to be unpredictable and make unreasonable demands like taking a bunch of unarmed player's pants for my collection, just depends on what I'm in the mood for.

In the end, being a KoS ****er is usually a No-Go because it just gets old after awhile and what's the point?  To get better gear?  Usually if you can just cap them like that they don't have anything you want anyways.  The only situation where it's acceptable is when they have food and you don't (which is when I do it).

This community is both one of the most brutal and also one of the most rewarding. It is what you make of it. Trust nobody but yourself or the group you run with is the best advice I can give

Yeah.

1) It sounds like you were near the coast. Two buddies chatting it up on the coast are NOT going to be friendly.

2) You snuck up on them and it sounds like you remained out in the open. I would have taken cover and watched them for a good amount of time if I really needed their help or let them see me from a distance and then observe their actions.

Think of Chernarus as a big ghetto. You wouldn't randomly walk up and say "hi" to complete strangers in a rough neighborhood would you?
