Isn't the point of an Alpha build...

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys, just what I wanted to say :)

Enough are not. Plenty of people whining about how unfinished the project is, how the mod is better, how rocket is a dick for charging money and what not. These people don't need a slapping, they need a whacking. There is a sub forum for that and a bug tracker!

Thank you Katana :)

TBH, I was a bit afraid all the newcomers would wipe you guys away but I'm glad they didn't :P

And I'm not saying what they said isn't valid. I agree with them entirely. Also, some "newcomers" can essentially be new to the official game forums. (Like myself) but are constantly keep track of development and posts via reddit. /r/dayz

Meh, it's kind of getting tiresome though. Plus I don't get that self-satisfaction of knowing that everyone reads my posts as I did in the "Round-Up" threads. That's just my own ego talkin', but it sort of plays into the sense I get of "pissing into the wind" in terms of futility in commenting on everything.

I expected the release to bring the clusterfuck back to the forums (this thread is not that), but I didn't really expect people to still be so silly about the Alpha.

They really need a dedicated "Feedback/Suggestions" forum, rather than just a clusterfuck "General Discussion" forum.

Pissing in the wind... Tell me more :P I know what you mean. I'm assuming half the new accounts will only be used once or twice to ask a stupid question and that was it. It's just that b4 release I felt like I knew everyone and now someone dropped me at the times square :P

I agree with this. This should've been done day one of release! To eliminate the cluster fuck of ass backwardness in these forums

Eh, what I'm not and am apart of doesn't matter to me. I'm really not concerned about being labeled apart of said woulfpack. I'd just like to combine minds with some of the individuals as they're the ones whom seem to have their heads on straight.

Hahaha, don't worry man ;) I was just kidding. Smart people with good ideas/thought's will always be welcome :)

I think the main reason is that to report the bug on a forum like this is stupid.  Developers cant follow it and be effective.

That is why they use the Bug reporting software you can see pinned at the top of this section of the forum.  Where bugs can be much more easily tracked and assessed based on improtance to development and community.  Ive read through several of those and most the ones that seem sincere and helpful have been upvoted and most the others get downvoted very fast.

The people who post bugs on here tend to be sensational about how its game breaking and needs to be fixed.  This isnt doing anything but clogging up the forums.  If youre looking for a solution to your problem i could understand but most the post i have seen ahve not been in that line.  Mostly just people crying about how could this not be fixed yet and the like.

CHECK THE EXISTING REPORTS.

The problem is not that you suggest things or report bugs. The problem is that the forums flooded with unneeded reports of bugs that are sometimes even already fixed or have threads about it that are easily over 10 pages long. Search before posting and we will be nice if you come up with something that hasn't been suggested or reported yet.

The topics that are already existing and big now have to be originating from somewhere. If we would have just said: "Piss off - we don't want you here!" none of those would have existed in the first place.

The feedback tracker isn't any better.

This morning at least 1/3 of reports were closed as duplicates and that's not even all of them.

I don't even have time to check up on those, because I'm trying to answer the duplicate questions on the forums.

I've given up for now.

I'm beginning to hate humanity so I'll take a little break - I've been doing reports solid since it launched, I haven't even been online since the closed-testing!

Hello there

Remember the sheer number of new reports and members etc is quite amazing.

Also, the core team is small and might be fairly unused to management on this scale.

In another life I used to run a small department, just managing those folk took up a vast amount of my time and I still had to do my own work to generate fees.

I think these guys, whilst not perfect, are doing a damn fine job for their age and experience.

Rgds

what i did:

before i posted feedback or anything i read the forums, known issues, etc and noticed,

that everything i found has already been posted by someone else, so i didnt post itagain.

it would be much easier to browse through all the problems if there werent 20 copies of them each.

before you post your problem, read the feedback page (you should visit there often anyway; alpha test and all *hint hint*.)

most of the stuff like server hopping, character wipes, odd spawning, darkness etc, has already been mentioned somewhere.

i guess a lot of the "wtf noob its alpha" flak comes from the many repostings of stuff.

The thing is that some of us "fanboys" are also pointing out some really obvious things to people and then being told we are wrong. Posts like, "How do you heal?" we tell them how and they tell us we are wrong. We ask how they did that and they don't understand the question because they in turn repeat themselves and then insult us. We then explain in more detail and they tell us we are still wrong.

Like the whole, "The melee system is broken." thing. I took some time and figured it out and can headshot zeds with shovels/fist/wrenches to knock them down and then beat them to death and hit them with axes. It works pretty well if you get the feel for it. In some people's opinion it is broken because they have to actually figure it out. Sorry.. I am going to blast that type of person with sarcasm. Is the melee system perfect? No, but it works really well for their alpha build of it.

Whilst reading this thread, you will come to notice that posted above I have stated that it is in your due diligence to avoid said content and let them be buried beneath the important threads.
Instead of posting in the tedious and tiresome threads flaming the poster. Let them die, beneath importance.

Nice in theory... rarely happens. Instead a bandwagon fallacy starts where 10 others pile on and keep agreeing with each other. Then since no one is disagreeing with them others think it is true and an actual bug. It is a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation though because sometimes stating even a reasonable argument with them leads to being told you are wrong over and over.

It's like can openers. People think they are rare but I have found one in every single life(I take that back I don't count the spawn near balota and get shot before I have picked anything up a life though) and often found more than one. My friends have all also found them for each life and had spares fairly often. Either we are hitting the luckiest of all runs on the odds or they are not rare but because people are probably not looking around very well they are not finding them and so assuming they are. Then others go, "You know... I didn't find one in 5 minutes either... they must be rare like he said." I'd like to mitigate that line of thought and maybe at the same time educate a few people in how to find them, "Look for them." :)

*nods*, I like the reference. And I totally agree, more then enough people are drawn to idiocy and feel superior with they "finger bang" someone over the internet.

I'll admit I occasionally get drawn into that. I've caught myself several times over the last few days going back through a post and rewording it to be a bit less inflammatory.
