Poor character render distance ?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed that players do not render at longer distances ?

It seems almost like past 500m players do not render at all in game.

This seems like a severe downgrade from vanilla arma 2 and Arma 3.

This also appears to be a strange choice given that buildings and trees render at much higher distances ~3000m meanwhile players stop rendering at 600-700m.

Have you guys encountered this yet ?

if you zoom in they should render.

However, its probably this way for the purposes of the alpha, I'm sure visibility will be increased once they're sure the servers can handle it.

Lets hope this is true. I have encountered several situations now where I was able to see enemy players when zoomed in but not when i go to the iron sights to actually aim.

Its a shame too since now you can finally see buildings and objects such as trees out to 3000m.

With the poor render distance goes my dreams of being able to spot a group of survivors from 3000m and then carefully stalking them and killing them once I have found the right moment.

The highest I have actually seen players render in the mod was 1400, like 1450 max, so I don't know about 3000 meters.

I think the render cap for most servers I played in was 1200.

This was the case in private hives.

I actually do not know what the render distance was on players in vanilla dayz but I certainly know it was much higher than it is in stand alone.

Yep, its very short now and i can still see the gun a little bit, but not the player. I do like that fact that only torsos show after a certain distance (my experience) and i like that fact that it is a little harder to see players at distance, but i think making it avatar go into "stick figure" mode THAT close is a little too much. I think its a little transparent too, which is actually a very smart way to handle the fact texture in the game at distances have very little noise in them to hide players as they would in real life. I don't think this would be a server performance issue, i thought they were trying to put a dampener on sniper rifle usage, but i don't know for sure. Another issue in alpha is that players are difficult to find now since zombies spawning doesn't mean a player is there and interiors are makign it harder to find players, ie, no longer can you quickly glance down streets and have pretty good idea a player isn't there. He may be in a building or going from building to building via back yards etc...

I do hope they put in a little transparency for far away players when they are not moving, simulating the difficulty of seeing a player against a more realistically noisy background.
