i found some woodpiles in a house...but honestly i haven't tried to make a fire yet. As soon as I'm able to join a server again i will try it.

same, wood is very rare(exept wood sticks). Got box of matches, wood and wood sticks, but cant make a fire place, paper also didnt help in this

I've found 2 stones while playing, the flavor text says they are used in making fireplaces. Found them both in Electro residentials.

i manage to assemble a portable stove and a gas cannister but couldnt light it up as i was missing matches but maybe its one way to cook.

I started one up without the matches.  Just put the assembled stove on the ground, hover over it with your cursor and use the menu to "Turn On" the stove.  It makes a pretty blue flame but couldn't figure out what it did past that.  Didn't even emit light...

Yes, I believe you need wood (both types) and stones to get a fire pit going.
