Does dayZ SA use a CD-key?

Recommended Posts

Hello, fellow dayZ Survivors I was wondering if the standalone version of dayZ uses a CD-key, this is because me and my brother both want to play the standalone but we don't want to pay for two separate copies because my brother is only new to the game and he may not like it.

Will we be able to play together if we download on two separate computers or is it like the mod where only one CD-key can be in use at a time?

If you have separate steam accounts I think you can share the game, but someone else with more knowledge might be able to answer as I'm not familiar with the function.

DayZ is tied only to your steam account.

You won't be able to play together on the same Steam-Account. You could both try it out separately and then come back when you like it - with 2 version. Maybe even try to get it for christmas in the last second. :)

It was announced, but at the moment there's no option to share games between accounts, I think.

You can actually.. but it's not perfectly legal with Steam policies and the forum rules. Down side is you will both share the same character.

Ok, thanks guys.

I'll give it a try and if it doesn't work I will buy another copy later on.

As stated you will be able to play on seperate computers but you will have to use the one steam account which means you will have to load it back and forth between each PC.  That said each time you go back and forth you will both be playing on the same account and have the same characters unless your brother decides to blow you up each time he plays.  You cannot play side by side on the same steam account and or trade games as of yet to his account back and forth.  So which ever account has the purchased copy you will need to use between both PC's.
