mikeybb4 0 Posted February 4, 2014 Desktop or Laptop: Desktop Monitor Resolution: 1024x768 CPU: Intel Core i5-3340 CPU @ 3.10 Ghz Graphics Card: Stock graphics card...Don't know much about these but I'll list some specs I found. Name: Intel HD Graphics. Chip type: Intel HD Graphics Family. Approx. Total Memory: 1696 MB. RAM: 8 GB SSD: I think I have HDD but not really sure. I'm no computer genius. I played DayZ a few times for a few minutes each and my FPS was anywhere from 80-ish out in open fields down to 20-30 and maybe a bit lower in the forests and towns. I'd like to improve this but, as I said above, I'm no computer genius. When the frame rate would be low in the forest, it was hard to keep an eye out for other players and I actually got caught in the middle of a huge firefight (probably 4 guys on each side) without having any idea what the heck was going on because I'm a noob. So hectic, but I just ran and ran and got away scott clean, haha. Thanks for any help you can give,Mike
applejaxc 2500 Posted February 5, 2014 My birthday is coming up soon. I want to finally replace my aging Toshiba Satellite. Between it's 4GB Ram, 2.1Ghz processor, and Intel HD3000, there's a lot of improvements to be had. I'm torn between a Lenovo and a Toshiba. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312829#top (lenovo) http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-L875D-S7332-17-Inch-Processor-Windows/dp/B009XTWJYE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top (Toshiba) I like both brands. My family has a long standing history of reliability of Toshiba laptops and customer support. I'm not interested in the brands themselves, however; I know nothing about AMD graphics cards.I'm leaning more heavily towards the Lenovo. Which is a more powerful (for their price) laptop? (I know neither of them are going to run DayZ at 9 million FPS. I need something that can render videos faster and get me 30 FPS+ in Minecraft in a x64 texture pack/better graphic settings)

(I know neither of them are going to run DayZ at 9 million FPS. I need something that can render videos faster and get me 30 FPS+ in Minecraft in a x64 texture pack/better graphic settings) The lenovo would be the better option but It's still like choosing whether to get into nascar racing with 3 ton truck or 3.7 ton truck analogy, because it doesn't really matter which one. I can't stress enough to any laptop user that they sacrifice everything for one single thing in return over a desktop and that is portability. No magic here, just hardware designed all around portability and power savings, thus laptops, under any circumstances, can equal or come even close to desktop performance. That said, if desktop is not a viable option, the lenovo as mentioned above is the lesser evil. I'd not expect any significant improvements providing the screen resolution stays same at 1280 X 720 but you should be able to get to much more playable framerates over the old toshiba laptop Desktop1920x1080i7 920GeForce 9800GT12Gbs DDR3No SSD I run very low settings at only 67% resolution. Thanks The i7 920 came with stock clock of 2.66 Ghz if I recall and as such overclocking the cpu to 3.8 Ghz should yield much better results, as long as you have sufficient aftermarket cooler. You're right to be looking at graphic card upgrade as the 9800 GT is holding you back a lot. The GTX 760 will help ( if you can find a HD 7950 or HD 7870 for about the same money or less, that would be my preferred choice ) but keep in mind that the CPU is showing its age now. You should also consider an SSD.
