Am I just incredibly unlucky?

Since the latest patches (1.7.x.x) I have come across many more zombies inside lootable buildings. Since I now start with no weapon, and that shiny new gun lies inside a building, how am I supposed to get it? If I go in and get it, chances are i'll be hit and attract a few more zombies killing that one so that seems silly. What's a new player supposed to do now without a weapon?

OR, am I just insanely unlucky and look in all the wrong places?

I wouldn't say this is to do with your luck, Zombies just spawn inside stuff now. Since they move more slowly in buildings you could try (depending on building type) leading them away from where the gun is and then dashing over to get it... just make sure it spawned with ammo.

I'd say you're unlucky, i've been having an easy time with zombies spawning inside the buildings, usually they only appear inside big ones.

I'm still new to all this. I don't know what they even do, I assume something to do with a distraction?

Sidenote; It's hard to distract something thats already coming for you since it was hiding around a corner less than 4ft away being nice and ninja quiet

It's often the case that someone used that building to de-aggro zombies by running through it in the larger towns. I don't see nearly as many indoors in the inland towns.
