Is dayz dying a slow death due to epoch? just seen nalalsk and panthera servers come up...why is dayz lagging behind?

Recommended Posts

I see all these new Namalask and panthera servers coming up, why can this be the case with dayz?

More over, I believe epoch is causing the death of dayz

I've tried all the mods on commander. Mainly i spent most of my time on Overwatch and Origins (My first mod :p)

Now i only play vanilla

But in SA there will be no mods until post-alpha. (Most likely) But the original mod will inevitably die. I may get on there from ti.e to time just to PvP or show friends the old version

Death to Epoch Regime!

Are we dead yet?

If people are still asking, maybe not.

Everyone is sick of the mod is why. It's literally the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over...... and over and over and over again. When you put over 700-800 hours into a game like I (and many others) have in DayZ, you really start to move on to other things because you're sick of the repetitive nature of what you're doing.

I did a brief stint in Origins after done with the Vanilla mod, and then moved around between Namalsk and Origins afterwards. I don't play Epoch mainly because I really don't care for the concept and view it as Wastleland with zombies.

Once the standalone comes out (after Alpha) I'm confident that I'll get back into the game, but until then, I'll have practically nothing to do with it. I cannot justify playing it anymore, the game has approached Call of Duty level of shittiness IMO. Not because of the game itself, but because of the community.

Doesn't Epoch provide things like 'safe zones' and customizable vehicles?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that seems to me like people decide they can't play DayZ properly (dying all the time...etc) so they head to the easier option.

I think it might have to do with the mass influx of people from that other Zombie "Game" who like their little safe zones and safe houses which TOTALLY defeats the purpose of the Origanal Mod

I just started playing Epoch the other day. There isn't vehicle customization or safe zones on every server. It can be just as hardcore as Vanilla DayZ if you play it right.

Since June of last year I've never stopped playing main hive vanilla on 30+ servers with good ping. Most of the time veteran settings even. My only compromise after all this time has been side chat on most populated servers now. And, it's still being actively developed by the community. I don't even think SA will kill the mod, it has a life of its own now.

Vanilla currently has 864 servers

Epoch has 1683 servers.

People enjoy playing epoch because it adds more things to do, and allows you to obtain the illusion of progression by maintaining a base with your friends. And Epoch isin't killing dayz, it's the only thing keeping it alive atthe moment. Vanilla dayz was dieing way before the arrival of epoch, but epoch dealt a serious blow.

Some did, but most chose epoch because it provides them with more things to do. With the vehicals, currency, base building...ect..... epoch allows you to do much more before you get bored. Safe zones (which I greatly disliked at first) allow you to meet plenty of players and i find it to be a great feature. At first I was really into dayz being hardcore....but that stage is long gone I just want it to be fun.

dayz totally defeated the purpose of arma 2 (being a military simulator)

Did that make dayz bad?

The death of one thing is the birth of another.

I used to like epoch a few months ago, base building was simple, and you could buy a nice selection of things
now people are placing around 50 items each, making it really laggy (for me at least) aswell as everyone having 10 safes in their base, and locked cars everywhere, aswell as having 50.cal humvees and armed helis, which could be ok in small doses, but everyone has a few of them at least
i think aftermath is kinda similar to what SA will be, also the vanilla mod with some of the updates

Fun Fact most of the same team does both the vanilla  and epoch with two very different approach.

Epoch has some great ideas we just cant do for many reasons. We strudel just now with what we have to expand just on dayz we need to remove the hive and rebuild but that system got feature locked along time ago.

majority of servers were getting empty then the big youtubers bang on about playing epoch or any other mod so those with empty servers think hey frankly is playing epoch and its current bang a epoch server up then the sheep see frankly playing aswell and join in. kinda what has happened and why many numbers play it.

if frankly and others play other mods alot alot of people would play them and not epoch . only thing epoch really has is base building and selling stuff thing is if they implemeted into the SA then what ? no more epoch

Sounds like you class dayz as some sort of novelty that's worn off. You're blaming the community but there are alot of servers out there with fantastic player bases that you could easily enjoy.

All that's happened mate is that DayZ isn't a shiny new toy for you to play with

I believe that many players lack the creativity to keep finding new experiences in DayZ. Most kids get tired of the same Tonka truck in the same sandbox after a while; however, the creative ones never stop thinking of new games to play, even with old toys. It is no surprise that the average gamer moved on to something else after a year. Often I find multiplayer games get better with age because the not-so-serious players move on and leave behind only those who really love it.

 Let them go.

Vanilla will never die. There are still people who plays vanilla DayZ regularly. Actually vanilla servers pretty good right now because all kiddies and non sense people hurried to Epoch and panthera, namalsk bullshit...

I play Epoch and it isn't a hugbox mod. I host my own server and it has no safezones, no custom spawn loadouts, just a bandage a painkiller and a flashlight, the AI missions are brutal and you can be easily sniped from 600M away, the server has 200 vehicles but all of them are broke entirely so you must salvage all the parts, AI bandits patrol cities and towns killing everything that breathes, traders buy cheap and sell expensive so you get ripped off. Bases are not invincible and you cannot find lockboxes on zombies so there is no easy safe storage option.

People who say shit like "Epoch is for people who can't play vanilla" or "Epoch is for kids" need to hop off the hate spewing bandwagon and look at it in detail. Yes there are servers with stupid shit like free AS50s on spawn and safezones that hand feed you magical unicorns and marshmallows whilst soothingly telling you everything will be okay, but not every server is like that, if you want to use that flawed logic then I can look at vanilla and say "look vanilla is for kids, I see lots of vanilla servers with self-bloodbag/3000000+ vehicles/spawn with guns/no pvp and other hugbox crap." But I don't because I know that not every server does that.

So in summary stop being nasty shits who complain about something that doesn't actually affect them and stop grouping shit servers with proper servers.

No, actually Epoch doesn't have a single safe zone in it. Now some server owners provide things like "Safe Zones" and starter gear and self blood bags and.... any other mod out there that can end up on Vanilla OR Epoch.

On topic:

I play Epoch, Origins, and Vanilla. They are all similar in experience but not the same.

Origins Zombies are annoying and harder to kill. Occasionally you run into one of the tougher ones that I have literally unloaded 2+ AKM clips into it to put down some in the head and some in the body. Origins gave me a couple goals and I worked hard at them. I got my humanity up by avoiding other players so I didn't have to shoot them and killing zombies. I found blueprints, I found the supplies, and I built my house and a garage. I fixed up a few vehicles, and basically enjoyed the game. I had several moments with AI in Choppers hunting for me as I zipped through the woods on an ATV bullets whizzing past me and spanging off the ATV. Had similar moments with bandits in one of the larger towns I had thought there was one then spotted the second right before I fired. I slipped out of there but not without being spotted and threw down some covering fire while I retreated and then zipped off again on an ATV. Heck, I fixed up a Wheeled Titanic a very apt named amphibious vehicle because it swear once I had fixed it up and moved onto land I crashed into everything. Worst vehicle ever but it was fun fixing it up.

Epoch offers a chance to actually secure some loot to some degree. The base building is the huge draw because it is actually a bit fun to work hard at something and then point to it and go, "I did that." Even a tiny base with very little other than four simple walls, a locked door, and a roof isn't easy to put together wile dodging other players and zombies. Some of the vehicles are a lot of fun as well. The little Mozzie chopper is hilarious and a good deal of fun to fly.

Vanilla has it's own draw. I love what they have done to make melee more viable and I like the Sepsis and other recent additions. Unfortunately there isn't much left for me to do in Vanilla besides go shoot people and I'm not all the interested in doing that right now.

If you really want to have some fun PVP hop onto a BattleRoyal server. It takes up about an hour and a half of your time if you are good and lucky and really lets you PVP.

Epoch does add more things to do but what you end up doing most of the time is pretty lame and does not fit into this game at all imo. Hoarding useless stuff in order to buy a car? Meh. There are so many servers with safe zones you might as well call it a feature. Vanilla DayZ is only going to die because of the standalone, not because of Epoch. Most people playing vanilla will switch to SA while those wanting something different will stay with arma mods or play both.
