garongaming 4 Posted December 10, 2013 So when the DayZ Mod first came out, the type of game was really kind of unheard of. And then from there it exploded. The mod became a smashing hit and everyone wanted to play. It boosted ArmA's popularity big time (even as a hardcore ArmA fan I have to admit DayZ changed the games popularity forever.) Then all these variations of the mod came spiraling into the picture. The big ones of course being Epoch and Origins. But now the mod is becoming a little stale even with Origins and Epoch out. But what if we took all the good stuff from both and mashed them together to make a Supermod. I mean lets be honest the Standalone will be great when it finally comes out. And the mod will slip into forgoteness. However, a complete Standalone game is at least a year away. Even with Alpha rumored to be coming out soon, they've said it themselves and this is what its taken as "Alpha is gonna suck. We know that. We have a sh*tload of work to get done but we need to give you guys something so we can get feedback." But back on the main topic, what if that type of mod was developed soon and gave people something to make them love DayZ to it's fullest again and made people anticipate the Standalone again. For some examples what if we took this From Epoch- The currency system, which is the reason we love epoch- Trading safe zones- More vehicles- All sorts of craftingFrom Origins- Craftable Vehicles- Survivor made houses- The humanity/levelup system they have And thats just some stuff. You tweak it all add some other content, like more civilian based weapons instead of hardcore military automatics everywhere, the traders to have a limited stock so you cant stockpile weapons easily, and you could have a super power mod! Am I the only one who has thought this way because I feel like I am. Feel free to shoot me down on this because I was just throwing it out there because I thought "why has no one thought of this" And maybe they have! But I haven't seen it anywhere so I figured I'd throw it out there and see what you guys think.
Jasonperson 78 Posted December 11, 2013 I personally only play classic dayz, so i wouldn't know if these mods are good or not, but i imagine once the alpha for SA comes out, people would abandon the mod completely. I think it would be a waste of time

Inception. 9443 Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Are you suggesting that the Standalone implement the features of Origins and Epoch? Edited December 11, 2013 by Inception.
thedogfoodyayho 295 Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Are you suggesting that the Standalone implement the features of Origins and Epoch? Hell no. I'm suggesting a SA mod Although SA should have customizable vehicles Edited December 11, 2013 by thedogfoodyayho

Karmaterror 982 Posted December 11, 2013 Idea sounds good, but personal I hope there are no mods for SA. It would just splinter players over veriations, ultimately making each version loose players.

It would just splinter players over veriations, ultimately making each version loose players. That will happen eventually...guess why a lot of games are locked vanilla by their makers? Too much here and there and it's far from the original idea.

I thought it was a great idea I'm glad I'm not the only one And then put it on an Expanded version of Namalsk without so many bloodsuckers.Perfect mod.And this is also a great thought. Personally Namalsk was my favorite map but I always felt it needed a little more content.
thedogfoodyayho 295 Posted December 12, 2013 I'm sure Rocket will allow mods. After all, he was an Arma modder before Releasing the dayz >Mod<But i do agree. Epoch sucks but everyone plays that, so its mainly populated by Noobs who bitch when their Elektro hill bas is griefed or the get run over by one of the 753567644 Cars per server. And then vanilla dayz is mostly "999 Vehicles! AS50 TWS spawn loadout!" Servers.Vanilla DayZ is my favorite. But don't get me wrong, i like mods.

But don't get me wrong, i like mods. Those 100+ car servers are so much fun though.I hope theres a couple in the Official hive servers, the first time i played it i was pulling up on the road and everybody would jump out of their cars and exchange gunfire, I must've sniped at least 5 people mid range with my CZ as they were jumping out of their cars.I think if cars are harder to maintain hoarders may stop hoarding so many and with about 100 or so cars on a 100+ player server I think that'd be great.People might not steal more cars if they have about 2+ if they're hard enough to maintain, have parts not necessarily rare in the right place, but must be exact such as oil filter sizes and tires. The sort of thing you jam in your car when you find. thedogfoodyayho 295 Posted December 12, 2013 I don't have a problem with it aslong as you have to repair them, or its not over 200 cars. I've played on servers where theres a car every 100m along the coastaly road and you spawn with a DMR. If i'm playing with extra vehicles, i prefer to have to repair them, and get my own guns/gear

garongaming 4 Posted December 12, 2013 I agree I hate all the servers with cars everywhere it makes the game too easy. But there should be right around 150-200 per server because thats about the number you would find in a real life setting like chernarus. But about 35% should be in mostly working condition with a little gas. About 50% should be missing 1-2 crucial items and then the other 15% should be just about destroyed with maybe 1-3 working parts. Also there needs to be not as many high end automatics and military snipers, there needs to be more civilian based sporting rifles/sniper rifles and hunting rifles. The really good guns like the M4s and the M249s need to be in more limited locations and not in a simple a fire station.

But I haven't seen it anywhere so I figured I'd throw it out there and see what you guys think.I play both Mods. From Epoch:The currency system is "okay". Mostly a bunch of prices need to be set better and admins need to stop populating the Vendors with gear. When it is vanilla and someone has to sell something to a vendor before they have it in stock the game is a lot better. Epoch doesn't have Safe Zones. LESS Vehicles, please. A Vanilla Epoch server has an okay ammount, it could be a few less, especially since you can purchase a vehicle. As it is found vehicles are simply a way to make money in Epoch. Crafting is a definite and will be in the SA. Base Building was mentioned and considered. You should be able to break into a base if you put forth the effort equal to building it(which is not the case in Epoch although it is getting better)From Origins:Craftable vehicles are not really Craftable. They are basically just upgradable with these less common things. I am not a fan of the houses, mostly because like I said above, they need to be able to be broken into. I don't like Safes from Epoch either. I liked the functions a house could have other than just a locked storage space. The leveling system is both good and bad. It locked access to certain things and so did force me to play a certain way to accomplish later goals in the game but sadly all it influenced was, "Shoot other players or not shoot other players?"

The Epoch crafting system, in my opinion, is perfect. And if you could some how impliment craftable survivior vehicles it would be amazing. The level system would probably need some tweeking. Something that can steer away the pure "shoot on sight" mentallity. That is another thing that I mentioned the traders need to have a smaller, not unlimited stock and more limited market for stuff to make hoarding a lot harder. The safes and locks in brokes need to be able to be broken into!!!!! There should be something that you can find or buy for a high price that allows you to make an attempt at cracking safes and picking locks on doors. Or make it possible to break down doors without completely destroying somebodys base. I like the input guys keep it coming! :D

I like the input guys keep it coming! :D  The "Uncrackable Safes" in Epoch are one of the few things I don't like. I want my stuff to be more safe than the SA but less safe than an indestructible item in Epoch. Maybe if the storage was VERY limited It wouldn't be as bad. Say 2 "gun" slots and 20 "magazine" slots. Otherwise you stash way too much in Safes. The unlimited stock that many servers get going is also a bad thing. If someone has a spare pair of NVGs they should be able to sell them and someone else should be able to buy them from a trader, buuuuuut... there should not be an SQL script running every so often that populates every trader with at least 10 of every item. Popular items should sell out. I do want to see what the things they have done in SA will bring to the table first before these other ideas are put in. It's possible some of the current things they are doing will help a lot.

garongaming 4 Posted December 15, 2013 No I'd say a million cars or so. Chernarus has a pop of 3 milIn the whole area of chernarus yes. But the map is actually only a small fraction of the full size. For the map and the amount of civilian inhabitited areas it should be around 200. Not everyone would have a car because even though its ex-soviet chernarus is kind of 3rd world like economey. Even a lot of Russia its self is that way
