"Confirmed" DayZ weapons, and ideas

Recommended Posts

I would love a C96, and a P38, too.

That would be fun.

I also want to see an SVT-40. While it's clearly not going to be as common as a Mosin-Nagant, SKS, or AKM/AK-74 in a country like Chernarus, I can imagine that atleast some surplus rifles would be held by the military and/or farmers/police.

Definitely. I think around 400,00 were manufactured?

I think the PPSh-41 makes perfect sense, so many of them were built, and it would be a very effective and reliable close-quarters weapon with a 71 round drum and lightning-fast firing rate. It would still be quite rare considering farmers (probably) wouldn't have it and it is hardly used by main forces anymore.

The SKS should probably have a bayonet, maybe not forcibly integrated. A Mosin-Nagant 1944 would be interesting, too.

I also want to see a 50's or 60's polymer SKS, just because my Father owns one and it's a great rifle :P

I was talking more about the PPS-43, becuase the PPSh would be to OP unless it only had the 35-round magazine, or a ton of recoil.

Mabye a Vz 52? (Basically, (not mechanically) Czechoslovakia's equivalent to the SKS

And the SkS's bayonet is permanently attached to it, much like the M44. There is no way to mount it otherwise.

Uh, OP should not be a consideration. If the weapon fits the setting and all, then it should be a candidate. No artificial balancing either, the PPSh doesn't have a ton of recoil so giving it a ton of recoil wouldn't be authentic. And if it's not authentically portrayed, then it's not really a PPSh. It's just something that looks like a PPSh but lacks the actual characteristics of the weapon.

Besides, the Bison has 64 round magazines and hardly anyone will tell you it's OP. As well, who says you'd always find a full magazine with the new individual bullets? When in this game will you need to fire over 70 rounds without being able to take an opportunity to reload? Anyways, it's hard to call a gun OP in this game when they can most all kill in a few shots. It needs to be hyper-OP to be OP, like ye olde TWS. Or tanks.

That being said I don't know about the PPSh. I like the gun and I like the caliber but I am not sure how many of them are still kicking around and functional. I'm sure there are a few stashed under floorboards somewhere, but how common would they be? I mean, for example, America produced 2.7 million Thompsons but full-auto Thompsons aren't exactly a common find these days. More research would be nice but it's probably hard to find figures on illicit PPSh stashes in random countries.

Yeah, even though a lot of World-War 2 era weapons survived and had major use even until now, guns like the PPSh-41 are much harder to find than something like a Mosin or Enfield because they are inexpensive and reliable, while also usually complying with firearms laws (Whereas PPSh sub-machineguns are automatic and not legal in a lot of places).

Still, Chernarus has a lot of guerrilla activity so it could be justified as a weapon held by rebels or whatnot. It's definitely a gun worth having if not for need of more sub-machineguns, because honestly SMGs are not super common anywhere.

And honestly, I would say that almost all of the guns in DayZ are 'OP' by the other poster's logic, the Enfield and Winchester in the mod are found everywhere and ammo is just as common, and they can usually kill in 1-2 shots. The only real downside to them is that they have a large zombie attraction radius, but the winchester's sound isn't actually that loud and won't attract players easily.

Well, i'de assume the PPSh would have alot of recoil firing at 1000 RPM, but its a pretty heavy gun with the drum.

There should be the 35-round and Drum though.

As for them actaully being there, Millions of Pps-43/2s and over 6 million Ppsh-41s were made, and both are extremely reliable, and i'm sure many victorious Red Army soldiers brought their service weapons home in 1945. But even then, the PPs was made into the 1950s, and some were sold to civllians.

But a Chernarussian farmer would have little use for such a weapon, unless he was really, really, mad at a deer he was hunting. But as chaingunfighter said there was a civil war in Chernarus and i doupt every Insurgent gave up after the main movement was destroyed. There would probably be a >Few< Submachine guns around. Very rare, but ocasionally found in, maybe a townhouse?

But it appears from the livestream that the guns available on the Alpha release will be: M4, FN .45, M91/30, and M43 Shotgun. One of every base gun type. And according to rocket, one .45 will put someone on the ground.

Finally, realistic guns!

From the looks of that, that would make up two rifles, one handgun and one shotgun. You could sub-divide it into an assault rifle, straight-up rifle, shotgun and pistol, but that still doesn't include any sub-machineguns, revolvers, battle-rifles, machine-guns, nor explosives of any type.

We don't know what guns will appear in the Alpha. Dean was talking about how the IzH-43 wasn't even fully implemented so it might not even be in the initial alpha but remain in the dev-build. There may be more guns that they just simply did not find or may make it into the game before the alpha is released.

They should also add a Smi-automatic civilian AKM

A few civilian rifle versions quickly made from the same model would keep me happy and the amount automatic weapons sensible
