Need tips for observation and spotting

I've been having a lot of issues when playing dayz especialy on more hostile servers. i feel like im blind compared to other players. i always end up getting back stabbed becuz i made a mistake scanning the area around me. i always end up getting seen 1st and ussually when my bck is turned. i was wondering if anybody can give me tips on this stuff.

Sit incredibly still for some time, facing the area you wish to survey. Patience is the key.

Also make good use of freelook.

When looking around, be sure to hold ALT. That way, only your head will move. Then you are harder to see :)

Apart from the tips above here comes another one.

Go to a 1st person only server. Most likely you wouldn't have seen the guy anyway since he might have been peeking from behind a wall/concealment. Doesn't matter if you scan a region 100 times when the guy stays prone watching your every move.

And try to play on less hostile servers..usually the ones with less than 20 players.

Yup, there are numerous locations where you can hang out and view others and the only way they can see you is to approach very close(like the other side of the wall) and scan for you. This is only possible in 3rd person view so if you avoid those servers you won't have those issues. Which is why we want FPV only SA servers.

This.  Specifically one I know of is in the pub in Elektro.  One can lay prone in the top floor and use alt look and 3rd person to watch everything that goes on in the supermarket, the office building, the intersection and some of the front of the hospital.  Teamed with a gillie spotter on Dobbry hill and perhaps someone watching the back door, the team can have a full view of the main part of Elektro with little to no worries, and can get the jump on nearly anyone.

 

One of the reasons I don't bother looting Elektro.
