mrperson666 0 Posted June 21, 2012 I'm not a player killer, I'm always friendly. I don't mind player killers. They're a vital part of the game, it'd be dull without them.Problem is, I'm finding there's no satisfaction to be had being friendly. I spend ages crawling around, and then suddenly I'm PKed and lose everything. Usually not much I could do about it, except maybe only hang out in the forest and get totally bored. If I was given the information of who killed me, it'd be a lot more fun. I could then try to hunt them down. As is, I simply have no info and can't do anything. It's getting boring.I don't see that PKer's have anything to lose. It's pretty easy to be a player killer, since you always get first shot. If people know who you are, it'd add some challenge to the game for them. As it is, they just have a pretty easy ride. It's make the game more fun for them, knowing that whoever they killed knows who they are and is coming back for them. And it'd make it more fun for me, since I'd have a very clear goal on my next respawn.I don't like the idea of bandit skins or bandit sounds, since just because you shot someone doesn't mean you're a bandit. You might simply be someone who kills bandits. At the moment though, its just getting tedious. I've done the routine so many times... spend hours collecting stuff, then get shot in the back of the head. Losing interest in the routine.
lvg 1690 Posted June 21, 2012 Server admins can choose whether to enable this option, but the majority don't and i prefer not having it my self.I honestly preferred bandit skins it makes me think before engaging the player and asking if they're friendly if i see a survivor skin, where as a bandit i would just kill them no questions asked, Too bad if they're actually a friendly bandit. mrperson666 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Is it a server option? I've never seen it. I've seen the ones where you can see a player's name if you put the crosshair on them, but not one that tells you who killed you. Since I'm often shot in the back of the head while crawling, the crosshair name doesn't help much.
lvg 1690 Posted June 21, 2012 The cross is also optional for server owners typically veteran servers disable any sort of crosshair or player name showing if you look at them. But yes there is an option to make it announce who killed who
Molten 0 Posted June 21, 2012 I don't like name tags. But being told who killed you I would really like because imo some of the problems of people being dicks is the anonomisity.. (maybe someone can tell me how to spell that lol. It just doesn't look right) Anon,..anono...ah sod it.

andb52 12 Posted June 21, 2012 It is not a server option. I run NY 84. It is disabled in the mission.
mrperson666 0 Posted June 21, 2012 "when you die, youre dead. Youre a new person so should have no grudges "I think that kinda fails the "realism test" too, though, since when you die, you don't suddenly come back as a new person, full stop. (Assorted religious beliefs aside.)So if you play the "realism" card, you should also never play the game ever again after the first time you're killed. If you do play again, then you may as well play with a grudge. Consider it re-incarnation with an echo from a past life.
BossFi 90 Posted June 21, 2012 This should always be enabled as ..1) would help to identify hackers.2) may help reduce those lame players who only kill for fun and camp the coast. Knowing their player name might put some players off from doing it.

john_gray472@hotmail.co.uk 2 Posted June 21, 2012 I can't see the point in having who killed you displayed yet want nametags to be hidden, after all how do you hunt down your killer? The main thing I could see coming from this being common would be people being abusive on the community forums towards certain players who killed them. Redshift 58 Posted June 21, 2012 I really dislike serves with names turned off (which is the majority of them). I am almost always friendly (which gets me killed very often). I like cooperative gameplay. Now Bandits/pking are and should be part of the game. Its part of the setting, and would not feel authentic if pvp were curbed. However, being able to see a players name is important and lends to authenticity. In real life of course you can't just look at someone and know there name (unless they have a nametag on). But you CAN look at them and differentiate them from another person. And this is something you cannot do in DayZ, everyone looks the same. And the only way to differentiate is to have nametags. And being told who killed you, is important also. I may not hold a grudge against them, but I will want to avoid them in the future. Instead now they just say "Hey Im friendly" then shoot you again.
mrperson666 0 Posted June 21, 2012 daze23: "if someone shoots you in the back of the head from 100m away, how would you know their identity?" If someone shoots you in the back of the head from 100m away, how would you suddenly come back to life again standing on a beach a minute later? It's not a different person either, check your name, it's the same as the guy who just got killed. ;)So, as I pointed out, realism is hardly a barrier.Redshift, yeah, I much prefer seeing the names too. GameJeff100 1 Posted June 21, 2012 I loved to know who killed me. Just so I can log it if I keep getting spawn camped by the same guy. I will allow me to avoid any server I see that name. It just allows me to revel in the murders ultra leetness of shooting a slow moving targets, tee hee.I also like nametags as this will allow me to ID the players I have grouped with before. Right now it is hard because we all are identical clones of one another. S o I often avoid people for this reason

Creator 1 Posted June 21, 2012 I miss not knowing who killed me as ppl, at least next time I know to avoid or claim vengeance on that player. You can learn what players look like & what gear they are using but without the name of your killer it is too difficult to learn who killed you

Kain Phalanx 9 Posted June 21, 2012 If you want to be a bandit killer you'll have to play differently. You assume that they always get the first shot, but if you do some stalking and identify with the heartbeat mechanic then this shouldn't be the case if you have skill.Revenge killing is a mindless fps thing. Niblik 1 Posted June 21, 2012 +1 to this idea.Would absolutely love it.I agree. There's a little too much anonymity in this mod right now. There should be some kind of consequence for killing another human.
