grimes (DayZ) 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Not sure why some servers insist on disabling player tags. If there were more variation in the player models I could perhaps understand this however, last night we had a group of 7 people on and with all of us using one of 3 player models it became next to impossible to tell who was who.Eventually a friend who was new to the game ended up shooting me in a panic when he ran into a tent I was in and mistook me for a bandit that was shooting at us. lol Now I understand why some would want to disable crosshairs and even 3rd person to an extent but removing the name tags makes little to no sense unless you play alone and just shoot on sight at all times. Since there is very little difference in appearance I would think that a nametag would be quite useful for most.Maybe I'm in the minority with this opinion though. Thoughts? Am I overlooking something here?
Haplo (DayZ) 44 Posted June 21, 2012 i understand what you're saying grimes. other than perhaps the weapon/clothes a player is holding/wearing, it can get tricky knowing who is who.if i could count the number of times i haven't shot a bandit who had been taking shots at us, because i thought it was a mate, then i will have learned to count. i'm sure something can be implemented to pull this off effectively. let's hope this thread gets some people talking :)
oktyabr 53 Posted June 21, 2012 Since this is the "suggestions" forum and not the discussion one, what do you suggest as a solution that will keep everyone happy? (And yes, this has been brought up before)
grimes (DayZ) 0 Posted June 21, 2012 My suggestion would be to have some sort of identification system to allow people to easily differentiate friend from foe. Perhaps a group/team function that would allow you to add/invite members to your group or friends list who would then show a name tag when you are pointed at them? The advantage of this would be that it would only allow you to see the tags of people you actually knew and still mask the identity of others.More variation in player models would also help however, it becomes somewhat irrelevant once camo/ghillie suits are obtained so I think a friend/team list and tag option would work best. That's just my two cents though. enablerbr 0 Posted June 21, 2012 how about a crosshair/name colour change when over someone in your group. maybe a coloured armband on model only visible to those in group. that also means you need a friend/ group setup function in game.
Bo0G 7 Posted June 21, 2012 I'm pretty sure this has been said dozens of times before, but shacktac hud.
-Cdn-Chard 96 Posted June 21, 2012 When I first started playing DayZ, I ventured up to the NW Airfield one dark night. For over an hour I heard the sound of distant gunfire as I slowly crawled into a overwatch position. Then I noticed that as a traced the horizon with my gunsights, player names would apear over figures that would have been otherwise hidden. Easy to avoid those guys, but they no doubt had seen my tags despite my best efforts to remain hidden. For that breason I don't like tags. Also, the last time I saw player tags, they indicated whether the player was a survivor or a bandit. I've been playing on veteran servers so I don't know if that's still the case, but that kind of goes against the whole "removal of bandit skins/adding heartbeat" thing Rocket's been aiming for. Another reason i don't like tags.I agree that it would be nice to have some different players types besides the vest wearing mercs, but there you go. You have the option to customize your face and your glasses. Friendly fire should be a real threat in this high stress environment, so aim carefully, and if on comms with friends, make sure everyone has good situational awareness and checks before moving/shooting. With that being said, if you could limit them to only people in your group/friends list it would eliminate this concern altogether.
tenbucc2 0 Posted June 21, 2012 i have to agree with the eliminate tags concept. Last night i had just spawned, i was headed over to the power plant by elektro... i scanned the the building on the limited zoom and saw two different tags pop up. obviously i avoided the building altogether because i would either run into them and get shot (i was unarmed) or go into a building that had already been looted. it was convenient for me but it's a cheat. it needs to go. grimes (DayZ) 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Again...the solution to the problem doesn't necessarily need to be removing them altogether. The glitch in this case isn't that tags exist but rather that they are displayed when they shouldn't be. In your example, they should not have been displayed when you can't even see the person as it provides an unfair warning of someone who's location should be hidden. A better solution than removing them altogether would be to fix them so that they only display when you can actually see the person in question or limit them to squad members or friends.
