With standalone approaching.... AIRPLANES

Look at it. PLEASE. look at it.

Lets be honest, helis are not "authentic", because the are terrible to control (irl that is) and overpowered while planes are rather simple. They are like cars with a minimum speed and wings! ;)

Weparo ready for take off :)

.. you do know SA is based off the "take on HELICOPTERS" engine...right?

Try getting used to how the dynamics for flying In that engine, as its completely different from the simple arma system

I guarantee that plane took off into very intense and steady headwind.

Flying a plane is NOTHING like driving a vehicle, you can't compare the two.

I think air vehicles have no place in the SA.

There we go. No need to thank me.

And if you're trying to tell us that planes are simple things to fly/control, why are you required thousand(s) of hours of training to actually fly one(professionally)?

And no, I'm not talking about a pilot's license that requires about 40 hours or so.

Even though i really want TOH-style helicopters, you're actually right...

Travelling by aircrafts makes the map feel so small.

They had if the map was bigger ( and they would have to be reeeeeeally biiiiiig like 100x100km to at least justify the shorter travel time ), in fact they have no purpose...not that they shouldn't exist because of that. If parts and especially fuel gets scarce you wouldn't want to waste it on a gas-guzzler anyway. I sure hope they have fuel, diesel and kerosene in the SA so you can't just drive/fly to a gas station and just fill up.

Yeah that's the problem...like 2 mins across the map...oh i have to turn again.... and where do you want to land that thing anyway if you see something? Quite dangerous even if the plane is capable of taking "rough terrain". And who in the world would go on a joyride in an apocalypse? Aircraft would be used to travel long distances and not circle above atown all day looking for someone to shoot at. 99% would do it safe and travel on the ground. If something happened in an unknown aircraft you can't just stop on the side of the road open the door and step out.

Perhaps 1 or two small broken down private helicopters could be in the map.

Yeah like every chernarussian farmer won in the lottery and had one in his barn...even one private owned helo is too much.

Err, me actually.

^^ What the man said :)

Well, I can almost agree on "There is no place for Aircraft in DayZ". Because it does make the map feel small. And it does use a lot of gas. Or atleast it should. What I'm saying though is that it's either no aircraft, which the avionic freak in me would find very sad. Or say, some airplanes (2, maybe 3 max) and maybe one UNARMED huey. The huey because it's awesome and is a dayz icon imho. Obviously the heli should use Take on Helicopters mecanics (tough mecanics).

I'm not trying to tell you. I am telling you. They are. Of the time spent on a small PPL (Private Pilote License) 50% is getting your landings right, 40% interaction (aeronautical laws, rules, how to talk to the tower & what not) and the actual flying is learned in the remaining 10%. Because it is that easy. For small airplanes like the Cessna 150's or 170's. The big jets are "harder" because you're not learning how to fly but how to tell the computer how to fly. Also the Interaction gets more complex when you start crossing borders and have a lot of responsability. Give me a small airstrip and I will teach any Individual that is able to use a clutch (that's about the level of skill required) how to fly an airplane within 5 days. Smooth landings, and comms are a different story. but you don't need butter smooth landings and comms when flying in the zombie apocalypse.

Even though id miss the huey, I got to agree that its very overpowered. A small plane would be a much better option for balance, in the time it takes to spot some stashed cars, find a nice spot to land and get back there on foot. Then the people whos camp it is would have a chance.....maybe they see your plane and double back to protect there camp (which they have time to do because you carnt just vtol and be gone in 2mins). Or they could follow the direction of the plane and leave there camp in hopes of taking the plane.

The people looting camps would have to think more about where to hide there plane, and plan the raid more than now, where its....see camp....tell pilot....land....loot...gone inside of 5mins (a lot less if your just destroying and moving on). So for balance a plane wins for me.

One downside I see is that there would only be so many places to land a plane. People will learn where those spots very quickly and maybe just hunt for them.

Played on a few servers that added the An2 and its really good fun. I once had to wave off a landing at NWA because a group was there. But I was insanely low on fuel. Ended up gliding into NEA on fumes and was literally empty when wheels touched down. Things like that really make me want a plane instead of a heli in SA :)

yes, YES PLEASE! :D

Beautifull airplane :)

There is no teaching people how to fly in the SA, you're a survivor, not a know it all. Nobody can jump in a plane with 0 experience and just fly around and land, it's ridiculous.

And of planes were on two servers that would NOT work, as those servers would be swarmed and the vehicles would be griefed/hidden to all Jesus.

First part, yes, agreed. but every aircraft has to carry a manual where such things are written in. Also, I don't expect to see nice landings from the start on. they'll crash, they'l die. Besides, the survivor certainly doesn't know how to fix a car neither, no does he have the required medical training to perform a blood transfusion, a process far more complicated as flying as far as I'm concerned. Cars in SA might be stick models, plenty of people don't know how to operate these either. Try -> Die -> Learn. Repeat. Did you think i was able to fly my first huey in DayZ w/o auto hover? Hell, 90% of the playerbase won't even be able to land a chopper w/o auto hover! The planes will be left to the crazy or the ones cursed with real life experience (in the case of flying me and Pvt. James Duke). Also, there is nothing wrong with picking up a General Aviation book or internet article to learn about these things. SA isn't supposed to be easy mate ;)

As for you second sentence, I don't understand what exactly you mean.... ?

So let's say this every time the planes are destroyed or lost (not acceded in 7 dayz) they respawn on a different server in a random location. Secondly a PA-18 is quite a simple plane to fly. My dad has a 2-seater version and has turned to stick over to me when we go flying . Of course I've never landed it or done a take off.

ok...i take it back...

Do you expect people to not try and have fun in a desolate and lawless society?

Once all hope is lost I think looting and joyriding would be the first things I'd do, if I Survive that I'd probably get more serious.

You would probably be surprised with gliders and microlight aircraft controls.

If you know the basics you probably could, it would just be risky.

In a way stepping into a plane shouldn't be much riskier than driving over 100km your first time driving.

If you can taxi and take off and you've got a fair enough understanding I'd the controls.

Ofcourse with Ospreys, C-130s, A10's and F18's you wouldn't have much of a hope at knowing your way around all the buttons.

I think with a bit of technical understanding you could get it airborne, the most difficult part is landing and staying in one piece even if you knew a bit about aerodynamics as a layman. It's like wearing a pair or rollerblades barely beeing able to stand, somehow you manage not to fall the 10m you roll down the street buth then a car approaches....HOW DO YOU STOP???   Kind of like that.

I would actually be very surprised if a satellite state like Chernarus did not have any helicopters. Remember; the CDF still exists, and they would likely have at least a few MI-8/MI-17 helicopters, as well as some MI-24s and possibly other types that they purchased. I'm not saying that I want people to be flying around in a gunship, but I do think that a few helicopters (And yes, some of them being armed) would make a good edition as long as they require high-maintenance and are not easy to fly.

I find it unlikely that every helicopter would be destroyed and rendered completely inoperable.

Don't they have Apaches, Cobras, Littlebirds, HMMWVs and Abrams...? Last time i checked they also had M14, DMRs, M16, M4, M107, AS50s and such...

But one thing is fact, when not maintained or sheltered from weather effects equipment like aircraft deteriorate fast(er than a tank or UAZ f.e. ).
