kebnekajsa 6 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) So, I came up with this easy way of decluttering the HUD (but didn't quite know where to post it, hopefully the devs still reads this forum from time to time); only make the hotbar visible while you're in the inventory, or briefly for a second or two when you press one of the hotkeys (1, 2, 3, 4 etc.) maybe with a nice little fade-out effect or something. Having it always visible kind of takes away the immersion of the game. I'm talking about this hotbar, if anyone didn't realize: The other HUD information is obviously a little bit trickier. I'm thinking that a small dot crosshair, only when you have a weapon equipped, would be optimal, because obviously you as a civilian/survivor are probably not THAT aware of weapon spread or the handling of a weapon (which makes the dilating circle/spread indicator kind of an excess). When DayZ standalone had its first (and last?) Q&A on Facebook, I asked Rocket about the HUD situation, and this was his answer: "The current situation is 'no HUD' and we hope to keep it this way, demonstrating through the use of sounds and animations. We do need to add options for those with hearing impairments and we will look at those options too." So I'm kind of disappointed about the way the HUD turned out. The sound/animation would've been very interesting, yet it could've easily been made awkward since you'd probably have to exaggerate all of the symptoms just to make it perfectly clear what your character wants (rumbling belly, yawns, shaky hands, dry breathing/coughing etc.). What do you guys think about this, or the HUD in general? Edited November 18, 2013 by kebnekajsa
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted November 18, 2013 I agree. I hope the HUDs we've been seeing are just placeholders.
weparo 613 Posted November 18, 2013 I wholeheartedly agree, the hotbar is hideous. Yet, how would you go about it? I personally don't really see any other option, unless you want to go in the inventory everytime you want to check your compass?
kebnekajsa 6 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) Actually, I don't have any problems with how the hotbar/inventory looks at the moment (even if it looks pretty bland), as long as I don't have to see it all the time. Personally, I think it could've been worse. It does its job, and that's all that matters! I like it when people keep something minimalistic (but you can of course also do it somewhat stylish), instead of how the inventory for the mod turned out: Now I'm not entirely sure if this one is official, but some things are just not meant to be textured. Textured inventories and hotbars and whatnot only makes my eyes bleed. It just doesn't look good. It makes it look messy. Also: I'm sorry for not noticing this similiar topic (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/151014-sa-or-mod-move-the-hud-to-your-inventory-screen/) before posting. Forum noob mistake. ImageCtrl 719 Posted November 18, 2013 I think this "hotbar" is only for alpha testing. It is invisibel at release (hope so). If you can´t remember 4 (or 9) keys you should not play dayz.
fluxley 2228 Posted November 18, 2013 (edited) Theres some videos/screenshots that show no hotbar and some that show the hotbar always visible, this suggests that it will at least be on a toggle. hopefully there will be an autohide option too. And as far as the text prompts are concerned, Rocket recently said he's not happy with how they turned out and has some ideas for an alternative method so i guess we'll have to see what they come up with.I liked the original idea of having audio cues and animations combined with being able to see your status when you go to the inventory screen but expect that would take a while to get right.
