How Do You Play With Friends?

Recommended Posts

I see tons of videos on youtube, highlighting this game and saying it's the best zombie survival ever and to play it with friends. That is what lead me to buy this game honestly.

Well me and my friend, have spent over 2 hours trying to find eachother just to get shot in the back of the head by a bandit.

Guess what? Another hour or longer marathon sprint to find town locations and try to meet up again.

About4 hours into the game, only met up once and died to bandits 3 times and died to zombies 7 times or more.

End result? Friend quits and doesn't want to play anymore and says the game is bad. I bought his copy, out 20 dollars I kinda feel what he is saying.

There needs to be a way to group together to spawn on eachother so groups can "EASILY" get together and survive.

I know you are going for the ULTRA HARDCORE OMG UR GONNA DIE zombie game, but in msot cases this is not fun. I could of kept my friend around longer on the game if he had not been frustereated to the point of slicing your wrists sounds more fun then logging into Day Z and marathon sprinting across 25 miles of open area to group up only to make a simple mistake and agro a zombie, to eventually bleed to death because you start with no weapon? WTF how are you people doing co op with friends?

face palm. it just takes time. for one, knowing where you spawn IS KEY! then refering to a map to know where you are and where he is and useing landmarks and learning. its a learning curve.

It took me maybe a few days to regroup with my friend. Several trial and errors.

Takes a bit of time and patience. Getting used to the game, trust noone but your friend. You can't sprint openly into areas, watch zombies, crouch run... crawl. The game has a lot going on...

I think it took me roughly ten hours to get the basics down. Like Charlie Sheen said, This game only has one gear, 'Go'.

If you want to PM me, I can go over the basics with you and you will /never/ aggro a zombie anymore. Not to mention with the new LoS setup, you can avoid and get any zombie off of you with a bit of work and careful planning.

You would find the online maps helpful I bet. I printed it out on 12 pages, glued it to a piece of cardboard and thumbtacked it to the wall above my monitor. Play in the dark, drink from a military canteen and eat beans.

There are many ONLINE maps to help you (dont have the links) one of them has the cyrillic and english spellings of towns. Learn to read landmarks (Powerlines are a HUGE navigation aid!!).

My friends and I have been playing a month now. One of them died just before 1.7.1.1 came out (and made life A LOT harder to start). He has died numerous times, but has finally figured out how to move around the zombies. It has taken us 3 days (about 6 hours of game play) for us to hook up again!

Also...a survival hint here.... as soon as you spawn in look to the bottom right...tells you where you are. Then put the ocean to your back and GET OFF the coast. DO NOT go into electro or Cherno as your are 95% assured to die to players.

This game isnt for the twitch shooter kiddies. Everything you get is a bonus. Every hour alive is a BONUS. One small wrong move or bad decision ends in your demise. Play smart, use stealth and GET OFF THE COAST (didnt I say that already)..lol

I have been playing for a while now and have not noticed this message. Does this really come up?

I can identify with the OP's issues a little bit because we have a group of about four of us that try to play together. Sometimes it seems like we spend hours trying to meet up only to have one or more of us die for one reason or another. I agree that part of it is just being able to look at the surrounding terrain, landmarks, and a map and figure out where you are. After playing for a while, I don't think it's that hard to do. However, as a time saver, if there really is such a message when you first connect, that would be awesome.

Can you confirm? Is this a new feature or has it always been in there? Does it come up only when you start a new game or every time you connect to a server?

It only appears for a few seconds - It's been a while since I've logged on though so it may have been patched out.

No, it is on the right side mate.

Unless for some people it's on the left?

I confirm it is on the right bottom side of the screen, when you respawn.

But it stays there for maybe 2 seconds and sometimes it does not help much by saying "chernorus, day 0" or something :-).

But navigating by the sea + online map helps A LOT.

It is just that you have to hold on through initial desorientation and lack of experience...the more you play, the better you are.

Btw if your friend really did quit then I feel your pain.

With friends this game is 10x better and your chances of survival are much higher.

Me and my buddy survived several murder attempts by lone psychopats just because they failed to spot both of us in many cases.

How do I play with friends? Well I just hop on the Team Speak of the gaming community I joined a half dozen years or so ago. Ask where everyone is and work on meeting up with some of them. We generally log out near each other, though some of the fellas like to play real late and I can't do that so finding them when I log back in can be an adventure.

I think the most basic thing to know is that if you are beside the sea, if you travel with the sea on your right side, you are headed East, if it's on your left, then you're headed West. Or it might be the other way around, i've been used to playing inland now as i've learned that the coast is a death trap, because of bandits really.

Correct.

Unless you spawn along the east coast. The best bet is to use an online map. If you have 2 screens pull it up on the other. If not, print something off. I don't see getting around without one. I usually have one zoomed out on my 2nd monitor, then have one that I can zoom in and out of easily on my iPad. Knowing where you are is the most vital to finding each other.

I want to, but its hard getting people interested in a game when the selling points are "Um, you die a lot...and its for keeps...you'll lose anything you've gained and start over." and "It'll be about 45 minutes before you do anything of interest."

I love it, we just seem to be a minority.

Hows the respawn button kind sir ?

Simple solution:

1.if u dont know the map ------> google "dayZ map"

2.watch carefully where u and ur mate spawn.

3. locate it on the map.

4. if it is to far to walk, one of u or both press the respawn button.

5. repeat till u are near each other

Otherwise just fucking play.......

Me and my friends managed to meet up quite quickly (Under an hour) the key is really just to find out where you spawn, and meet at a landmark somewhere.

We all met up at Cap Govola, i was lucky enough to spawn right next to the lighthouse while my other friends just kept killing themselves until they got a lucky spawn.

Now we're sort of a roaming axe murdering gang, hacking away at whatever we feel fit.

But a friends list (And markers to show where friends are) would make this mod amazing (And at least a starting melee weapon so that one rogue zombie doesn't chase you for half an hour).

Another quick tip is that the game doesn't draw if it's not the active window. If you don't have DayZ as the active window when your character loads you'll miss the chance to see your spawn location.

Fair point - I've never been on the eastern coast.

ME and my buddy died in zelengorsk and we both respawn spammed till we were between kamenka and cherno ( we both acutally spawned at balota about the same time, so we ran from there, through towns, through the air field, across woods, fields, jumped fences on a bee line back to zelen, got back there, and our friend was alreayd there looting our bodies and getting our gear back in the truck. When we got there, we had already lost the zombies due to LoS of trees and what not, takes a bit to learn, one friend quit cause it was too hard to meet up and he was used to shooting everything in sight so he would be outa makarov rounds before he hit the train tracks.

learn the map, read where you spawned, and run like hell!

I would love to be able to pick a realative location to spawn, so you can meet up easier, but its not really THAT difficult to run back, if you respawn spam till you get a good spot.
