zombies should be able to disarm you

Recommended Posts

If a zombie is able to get close enough to be able to hit you it should have a very small chance to make you drop your weapon.  it may seem like a bad idea but it will force the player to deal with the zombies if he wants to retrieve his weapon or retreat and have to come back for it.

I could be wrong, but I think Rocket might of talked about this.  I think that on top of zombies being able to disarm you, players obviously should be able too also.  I'd also like to see features like if your gun gets shot, it can be thrown out of your hands and damaged.

seems fine when we'll actually be able to fight hand to hand with an infected..standing unarmed scrolling mouse isn't fair for now..

the more shit we will encounter the more fun we'll have!

Unless you had really poor grip, it would have to be a pretty big bullet.

Reconsidering that one.

the following video shows several things i would love to see in the game of course:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLHU-_OhT8g

  • tedious, time consuming and dangerous reloading
  • troublesome moving through diffcult terrain
  • tripping
  • dust blowing up on impact of projectiles
  • chance of losing one's weapon when hit
  • nice gloves
  • slight slight camera wobbling effect while sprinting

Zombies being able to disarm you, No, I would not enjoy that. But players able to disarm each other OR being able to KO one another. I really want to see incentive for people to take captives. I know there will be zip tie/handcuffs, IF any of you cross my path prepare to become my BITCH.

You realize that the zombies aren't Jason Bourne?

Theoretically based in this Dayz universe the zombies lack the co-ordination required to take it out your hand. Players on the other hand........

Mr Dixon, I don't think the OP means the zombies will be disarming you Jakie Chan style, just that it is reasonable to think a zombie could knock your weapon free from your grasp if it got all up in your shit...

I like the idea, but I think that if there was some way for Z's to disarm you, to make it interesting ( and a game mechanic rather than a dice roll) there could be some sort of grip mechanic that the player could directly influence (thorugh key input, somehow... :P ) as well as it being effected be things such as weather conditions and physical state (of the player).

Well if you used your gun to block a hit from a zombie then yes you could lose it and that's why their should be a chance that you could lose your weapon, zombies are like a wild dog what just try's to eat you so their hands will be all over the place so why not have them smash it off you. That's a good idea to make you not just run in go to a building and get up and it will make you think about what your doing

If you think about it a dumbfounded zombie after your flesh should show little concern about the thing in your hand when it has nice tender loins to try grabbing.

However maybe by chance?

Its a good suggestion but I personally would hate it.

I remember the shout in skyrim that the AI sometimes used.

Then you got disarmed and you'd have to scramble around on the ground for your sword while your ass is being hit by ebony arrows that almost 1 hit you. :( wasn't a fun dungeon that one.

Oh. Ok yeah doesn't sound like a bad idea then.

I like the idea, if your arms/hands get damaged by a player/zombie I think you should be able to drop it. Same goes if either of your legs get damaged you should be able to fall if you're running.

Maybe chance to become disarmed increases with damage to your arms.

I also think when aiming should be the only time you can be disarmed.

This would encourage you to use buttstock attacks or pull out a melee weapon in CQ instead of just firing into their groin and being twice as effective still.

I'd hate to be retreating and a zombie lags five metres smacks and and my gun flips out of my hands.

thank you guys for adding more to this and yes what I meant was like maybe 1% chance of it happening. it just seems sensible to me if you looking around and a biter comes up behind you your going to try and push off with your weapon and you might drop it, or its just going to accidently hit your gun and you would drop it. I think this would add to immersion and stress of certain situations. and I mean only the gun in your hand not anything else.

^^^ This.

Movement wise, you might enjoy Miasmata as a good example, it's night impossible stopping yourself while running down a slope, you get atracted toward slopes (like if the slope gave you trouble to get a firm grip on your feet, you slide as you change direction and can even tumble down hills.

Here is one of my recordings there is a lot of running around if you have the patience. http://www.twitch.tv/kyrahabattoir/b/348039347

I'd like to add tha tthis type of controls might piss a lot of people off, it's everything but fine and precise like gamers are used to.

this calls for a thread my friend. honestly! i love this idea of movement in "extreme" environments. it would be just authentic to not have always full control over your movements...however how would this look in 3rd person :/ ?  again 3rd person ruins the day :P

Elements from it would be really nice.

When running, and I actually mean running down a hill you should take a distance to stop.

Same when on strep slopes you should slip, but I'm not talking about sniper hill in Churno, I'm talking more slipping and tumbling when trying to traverse the side of that giant rockface between Churno and Elektro... Or was it north of Elektro?

Holstering your firearm should give you better traversing skills as well, looking at the ground should make it almost impossible to trip/ slip on things and if you do you are pretty much instantly corrected.

Rolling down rocks or falling into trees should have a high chance of shock 90%, you should also loose minor amounts of blood to simulate small cuts & bruises.

You have a chance to break an arm or a leg on an awkward landing or speedy contact with any object on a limb aswell as a major cut possibly severing a artery causing the rate of bleeding we commonly see.

In the case of this tumbling feature I'd really expect rag dolling, without that I don't think it should be implemented.

Landing head first neck first should break your neck, in which case you should be pretty screwed, temporary partial paralysis?

Need a separate thread so that what I'm going to write is not off topic regarding OP.

I experienced such uncontrolled movements in a steep slope on a motorbike in Chernarus. The bike was moving down slope to my right and i had to steer to the left to go straight... if you see what I mean...

As for OP, agreed, zombies should be able to disarm you, as they're already able to pull you out of a fast moving motorbike, which ended up in sudden death for me ^^
