[SA] Stumble

Recommended Posts

Ever since I started playing the DayZ Mod, I can't help but have a puzzled look on my face when someone shoots me with an AK and my character has no reaction. Yes, the survivors in dayz are basically trained soldiers. Yet, soldier or not, you WILL do something after being shot. This is why I suggest stumbling. This will be the "reaction" from being shot. When hit, your character stumbles in the direction that the projectile is traveling. And I know some of you will say "But this is unfair, that means we won't be able to control my character and I don't wanna stumble and blah blah blah". Well, I can honestly provide 1 piece of advice to avoid the "stumble" effect. Don't Get Shot.  As for an example, I can provide this video from the Euphoria engine demonstrating how it CAN look. Note that I'm not saying we should port Euphoria into DayZ, this is simply as demonstration on how it can look. :) Go to the 1:00 mark to see what I am talking about.

I'd love to have some more realistic movements, such as sprinting in one direction and sharply turning would make you lose balance and tumble.

I must agree. It would be nice, having seen the latest "Day Zee Alpher Dev Vlog", I can say that the way rocket shot that woman without a reaction was unralistec

Yup. Let's put it in the game!

Aaaand DayZ gets delayed about two more years at least, because of yet another engine to work on.

Edit; I get the idea of what you're saying, OP.

Stumbling = Nice, small mechanic.

Euphoria engine = No.

You are the 2% that did NOT read the whole OP. Did I not say I wasn't suggesting to add the Euphoria Engine? Why, I believe I did. *sigh*

Notice I just pulled the OP down here so you could easily see it. I also enlarged the text so it can be easily legible with your 20/400 vision -_-

Something else that would be cool addition is the ability to be blow/kocked off your feat.  I imagine that explosives will be extremely rare in SA, but it would be cool if you could get knocked over or even blown off your feat.  Like if a RPG round were to hit near you, instead of your character just taking damage and staying still, he/she could take damage from the blast, get thrown off their feet because of the blast, and maybe even take a little damage depending on where they land and how hard they land.

stumble? i thought more of slipping, tripping and stumbling in a sense that you'd have to take your environment into account.

like running while it is raining heavily, running up/down a steep hill, running through the forest. especially running at night...

so that you would have a good chance to slip, trip or stumble. of course it would need to be a quite rare event but it would build up some tension in certain situations

Hey now. Like I said, I understood where you were going with it.

Besides, my skim-reading skipped over the "that I'm not" part. My eyesight is 20/20, now that you mentioned.
