methr1k2dop3 323 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) I think it would be cool if there wasn't general chat. You need a radio to send/receive text and voice globally. If you don't have a radio you can only communicate with people around you. You dont know whos out there and whats going on unless you have a radio. Example: you pick up a radio.select a channelIf any one is talking/text chatting you would see it.other than that no other form of communication globally. so to team up with somebody would feel more realistic.rather then throwing out a message "In Cherno anyone want to team up" Being out in the middle of no where would give you a eerie feeling of being alone. maybe. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted November 2, 2013 There will be no 'global chat' or side chat in standalone. To use anything but direct you will need to pick up a radio, this has been confirmed. I'm sure we the players will establish 'standard' side/global chats as time goes on (Ie Frequency 124.65 is side chat).
methr1k2dop3 323 Posted November 2, 2013 awsome.feel free to bury this. I am that much more exited for this f**** game to come out.
TIC 1050 Posted November 2, 2013 Yeah the radios were suppose to replace the whole side chat functionality. If survivors tune into a right frequency, it'll either be a radio station or another person. Radios could also be used to be placed on the ground so if you have another radio, you could receive messages which could be either text or audio from that person around the area or you could play a song out loud which would attract zombies. Overall; radios will be a useful tool.
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted November 2, 2013 People will use TS and other 3rd party chats as well. I look forward to no troll speak on side chat.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted November 2, 2013 Aye, you can place a radio on the ground for either distraction or surveillance. Was also possible that other players could hear your radio in direct if you don't have a headset combined with it. Pop some fresh batteries into a spare radio, set the frequency and lock the key to transmit. Place the thing somewhere and you can hear whats going on with another radio. Car driving by, footsteps, someone talking, zombie gnawing on your radio. I really hope that how it works out is that if you don't have a headset or a LASH style mic (forget what the acronym stands for but its a voice apmlifying microphone SWAT teams and the like use, a whisper is normal speaking volume, normal is yelling, yelling will have your teammates hitting you with a stick for making them deaf.) plugged into the radio anything you say/pick up on the radio will transmit at least partly in direct.
methr1k2dop3 323 Posted November 2, 2013 getting rid of side chat would be sweet.usually when i join a serer its filled up with shenanigans and obvious bandit traps. "lol who just shot at me""anyone in cherno wanna team up?""any one want a pick up""DMR in Balota""any friendlies in ele?"etc... i'm am glad they are doing this.It adds such a great unknown feel to it. Playing with your friends and using 3rd party ts is fine, but meeting new people and making a alliance would require a up close reaction with them like you would in real life
AP_Norris 1018 Posted November 2, 2013 What should be official dayZ forums sidechat? If we start we might make the trend...
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted November 2, 2013 It'll probably just be an unused frequency that everyone 'agrees' to as the new side chat.

Fruit_loop87 21 Posted November 4, 2013 Ts and 3rd partly things should be disable it just makes the whole experience worthless what's the point of dean and the dev's making the radios work if people just use 3rd partly things so no one can over hear them because they were at a camp fire scanning the radio over a nice warm can of beans as they boil their water and clean their gun so it won't jam. I don't know how they can stop it but it makes the game to easy for people using that to find each other not having to find a radio scan the channels to find their mates. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted November 6, 2013 There's no real way to block 3rd party programs (legally anyway), even then people will find/make bypasses
Dekkymane 145 Posted November 7, 2013 Side chat should be perma disabled. I think it actually is for the SA, and being replaced with radios.
Fruit_loop87 21 Posted November 7, 2013 Can you lock direct chat on so you can always been heard just like having a mic on when your on the ps3 or Xbox 360, so when you get a radio that's when you can talk to people in the distance but still in a car it can't be heard out side of the car. But the distance of the radio should have a limit maybe 5km but in deep forest maybe 2.5 to 3km I think that will slow people down because you have your mic plugged in it should picked it up, but people will just turn down their mic volume in game because people can't play fair sad but true
