Ozelot (DayZ)

Less ammo = more KOS

Recommended Posts

Just a few tools that the dev can employ, in combination with reduced ammo:

1. Nerf bullet damage on humans.

2. Real penalties for KOS.

3. Areas with no "friendly fire."

4. Despawn  ammo on a body upon death.

blah, blah.

Too much. More open game play, less plastic pussy crap

If  the likes of the above in put in place it would damage the game more than a few muppets that wish to deathmatch for giggles.

All just my opinion.

1 and 4 defiantely no lol.

Maybe number 2 if the penalties were realistic. Like when you shoot you get like 10-20 zombies chasing you. Or even unique/individual player characteristics in which you can distinguish one payer from another so it would be easier to recognize the KoS'ers. Give us a huge variety of character cutomization options and accessories for the regular survivor skin and awesome camo and miltary accessory options for hero skins. No cool extra accessories or clothing for bandits. No rewad with cool stuff for killing everything you can.

I think even a simple change like taking out the cool bandit skins would help. They are so much cooler looking than hero skins and so much easier to get.

if all I do is not shoot anyone than I won't ever have more than a few rounds. shooting people means I have a chance to find bullets for my gun on my body.

I'm going to use EVERY round I have on people's headcases because it's the most economic way.

If all else fails and there are so few weapons and ammo left that no one can arm up, than it will just resort to KOS melee style.

I was reading this and thought, "Wait, what about zombies? We need to shoot those things in SA because apparently they're better than in the mod!"

And therefore I'd like to put forth a scenario:

Lets say a survivor, let's call him Ozelot, is going through Cherno hunting beans. Suddenly a wild survivor appears in the distance, lets call him Billy. Billy doesn't see Ozelot and Ozelot has a Enfield with 3 rounds of ammo. Ozelot immediately drops prone and opens fire on vulnerable Billy. The first shot goes wide because Ozelot was just running and his character is out of breath, the second hits Billy center mass and he goes down bleeding and unconscious. Ozelot now has one bullet left for his trusty Enfield and a feeling of victory in his heart. His revery is broken by the screams of approaching Zeds attracted by the gun fire. Ozelot has one bullet and there is more than one zombie. If God smiles upon young Ozzie he will escape Cherno intact, however if he is not as lucky Ozelot will join young Billy in death.

Less ammo, weapon degradation, and better Zs won't stop KoS on their own, its the overlap of the features that does it.

I think it's hilarious that people think ammo rarity is going to reduce KOS at all, if anything it will increase it.

People are not going to want to KOS any less just because there are less weapons and bullets laying around, all that has happened is you have reduced the number of weapons, not the desire to kill.

If ammo is extremely rare than I will make doubly sure to kill anyone I see so I can collect the ammo that they have been collecting on their body. It'd be so much easier and less risky than trying to scavenge ammo continually. and chances are that if ammo is rare laying about, than players will be more likely to become large deposits of bullets, as they will pick more of it up knowing it's rare.

Isn't this like the fifth time you've posted this thread. Lol

The only issue I personally might have with low ammo spawn would be in the lack of a good melee system. It'd get kind of boring to me eventually if the SA turned into a melee game, but decent melee gameplay weren't developed for it.  So I'm hoping we get more than just an awkward looking chop attack.

The melee system is being entirely redone in the Standalone.

Thank Christ on a bike for that. The combination of wildly inaccurate melee and zeds that can defy the laws of physics with their turning speed has now got to the point where unless I'm in a building against a lone zed, I won't even bother attempting melee. I'll just run until either I lose them or I'm far enough away from other zeds and players that popping a few bullets into my pursuer won't get me undue attention.
