Craftable body armor

Well he would have been dead or heavily injured but you know hollywood...normal bullets don't penetrate steel barrels but "cop killer" bullets do...

Dunno, cast iron can be brittle but solid 2 inches could probably stop a pistol round. Most likely if it hasn't already reached terminal velocity.

You know that once a bullet leaves the barrel it can only lose speed? Only rockets gain speed after a certain distance. Like a gyrojet pistol f.e. you can stop the projectile at the muzzle but at it's maximum speed let's say 20m as a random number it will hurt you pretty bad and after that it will lose speed again because it ran out of propellant.

Ok the point still stands then. If the round loses enough energy by the time it hits the cast iron door, the door would stop it from going through. Though of course there still would be likely enough force to break your ribs.

Doubt the ribs breaking. Hurt, yes but breaking, highly doubtful.

It happens often with modern Kevlar vests.

If you hold that in front of your chest like you would carry a vest and let someone hit it with the same amount of energy it can break your ribs, don't underestimate energy transfer. All the energy is transfered into what's behind it or it fails ( which i think will happen ) your day will turn from bad to worse. The chances for it to stop a .22 are not pretty high imo.

Nokia phones can literally survive a nuclear blast three times hotter than the sun.

They aren't comparable to bricks they're much much stronger.

Every action has an equal or opposite reaction.

In this case the combined mass of you and the door should be heavier aswell as the doors area of impact being spread over your arms acting as shock absorbers and whatever parts manage to contact your body.

I'd say that in this scenario unless the door would give if it was modernish.

If it didn't give I would have to say the karate experts foot might be worse for wear.

Any karate expert should know that striking a shield is pointless.

Edit: don't know where I got karate expert from, just run with it.

Nobody in this thread knows about Level III I guess.

Just watched a vid where they shot their plate with 1 .308 and five ummm... AK 47 rounds.

Yes, they're supposed to be able to handle up to .308, Level IIII goes even higher although I'm not actually sure of the specs. Anything under III is just soft armor and won't stop more than handgun rounds though, I do know that.

.308 is impressive, maybe level 4 stops dem lapua .338 or something.

I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the best plate armor could actually stop musket balls sometimes.  The main reason people stopped wearing heavy armor is because it was 100x easier to train 100 musketeers than it was to train 100 armored knights.

Steel armor would be an inefficient way of dealing with hostile gunfire.  The amount need to be effective would weigh far too much.   I like the idea of different types of armor being more and less effective against certain attacks.  Stab vest is good against melee attacks but poor against gunner fire.  Kelvar would be the opposite.

That is likely the reason, it's also the reason the British started using crossbows, far easier to train crossbow men than long bowmen.

I'd really like to see plate armour as a rare occurrence, I'm not sure they'd be many museums, but a suit of armour is a pretty damn fine home decoration.

Complete with blunted sword you could go sharpen somewhere.

Maybe even add in a blacksmith, sure they'd mostly only make iron gates and stuff but I bet if you looked hard enough you could find a flail or a replica skyrim helmet.

It would be neat to find old armor pieces in the Castles.  Being a knight in shining armor would have its pluses and minuses.   ;)

I am sure if left outside they would rust away. But inside a castle, where it could be taken care of, the armor could be in good shape.

Random spawn should be a funny story of an attempted survivor who got in it as soon as he got news of a zombie virus.

Then he found himself as a zombie anyway because the virus can go airborn.
