[SA] Dead Military Patols?

Recommended Posts

So I was thinking about all the suggestions about heli crashes or other military loot sources.  How in addition to heli crash's or a care packages you can find the remains of a cherno military unit.

Here is the concept in a nutshell.

Like heli crashes you can sometimes randomly find what was once a patrol of the cherno military.  It will be dead soldiers and dead zombies and maybe some destroyed vehicles (tank wrecks, ruined jeeps, ETC).  The bodies will be lootable and will contain some low end and high end gear.  Think things the Russian military would use, like AKM's AK 74's, SVD's, czeck backups.  Maybe a grenade or two.

This will be a good in between for heli crashes.  And the loot you can find can vary such as.

1.  Eastern European standard guns.  (common)

2.  Ammo. (common)

3.  Survival tools. (Common)

4. MRE and water bottles (common)

5.  SVD's, VHS, other Russian sniper rifles. (uncommon) (This part is being debated.  May get crossed out)

6.  RPG 7, Russian themed RPGs. (VERY VERY VERY VERY RARE...rarer then a helicopter.  Though when you think about it, a RPG isn't very good in a survival situation since it replaces backup.  But might be fun.)

7.  Damaged Vehicles.  Like a UAZ or a off-road. (rare, undamaged vehicles will be very rare)

8. High powered snipers (very rare)

9.  Clothing.  Standalone will let you customize you character.  So maybe a few damaged ballistic vest will be lying around. (uncommon)

10.  Night Vision goggles.  Military flashlights.  Any other rare military loot you can think of. (rare)

11. Medical supplies. (uncommon)

Anything that has been crossed out has been removed from the suggestion because of feedback.

Of course the loot will be guarded by military and citizen zombies munching on the bodies.

Overall I think this is a good ideal since not only does it add more reason to get out of the cities and explore but it also fits in with the theme and dayz and reminds you that cherno was actually a place where people once lived.  Currently we don't see many remnants of the cherno military besides a few zombies in uniforms.

Leave CONSTRUCTIVE criticism or anything else related to the topic below.  Don't worry you wont hurt my feelings.  ;)

* Patrols

And I like it, much more fun to explore than a crashed heli in a field.

Each vehicle should spawn randomly around on the road to keep it different everytime.

Afaik AI won't be part of DayZ and shouldn't be imo since you know what AI does to you in vanilla. I don't know how it will affect you with the SA AI but still NPCs...nah. On the other hand you should be able to find stuff on soldier zeds but with a really low chance since they are infected they must have run out of everything to defend themselves and probably dropped their rifle where they were attacked and since they don't stay where they "died"...

I don't see why not.

It's not really 'AI' as such, there are already places on the map where there are bodies in pits or lined up preparing to be destroyed.

It will be a nice way to potentially provide some military loot while still making it hard enough to obtain - I do think it should be limited to lower-end military equipment though - leave the very rare items (NVGs, Snipers, etc.) for the difficult areas such as the airfields and the heli crash sites.

the patrols should have mostly AKMs and AK74s, as sargeants, corporals and soldiers usually carry a standart weapon, but a LMG (like a RPK or FN MAG) and a better rifle should be found too, as there's always a support gunner (LMG) and a commander officer on a patrol (with an AK with some good attachments on, like an ACOG, supressor, a better flash hider/muzzle break that lower the recoil, etc)

snipers shouldnt be found as there's no use for a sniper on a patrol.

Sounds like weapons will be too easy to loot this way, maybe they still have the guns but ammo should at lease be limited, if the patrols still had ammo to expend they probably wouldnt be dead so fast with all those fully automatic weapons.

patrols usually carry one mag on the weapon and 1 or maximum 2 spare, and they would use all of that on the infected for sure.

and for the weapons, you wouldnt find an entire patrol dead, you should find 1 or maybe 2 soldiers dead, then let's say, 2km after that, you find three more, 1 that was being carried by other 2, that turned and killed them both.

but this should be rare as hell.

The ideal was the patrol contains mostly common grade loot like AKM's and ak74's.  The other ideals were VERY rare.  The patrols themselves would be rare just not as rare as heli's.  Also NagstaTheGangsta its a game.  Of course in RL the military would probably tromp the Dayz zombies.  But in games you have to bend reality a little bit.  Also maybe they got attacked by Hundreds of zombies.  Think of it, all those gunshots going off would be a big dinner bell.

Back to the loot.  Like i said 80% of the patrols would just contain basic eastern Europe firearms and a small amount of medical and survival kit.  The odds are finding a high powered sniper would be incredible rare..

In the standalone, an AKM or AK-74 will be pretty good tier loot.

Never said it wasn't.  These patrols won't be common.  They will be rare.  Just not as rare as heli crashes.

I do think you might find a SVD because that's pretty much what you'd call a DMR for the squads designated marksman, but definately no bolt actions or KVSKs or anything rather.

There should never be any more than one spawn and it should be around as common or half as coo on as the LMGs considering a smart large squad makeup. I'm not entirely sure what that is but I think it would pay to have more LMGs than DMRs.

Occasionally you'd find a gun tied to the soldier, check their holster for a pistol, destroyed officer cap.

Maybe a clear obstruction that stopped the convoy like a overturned oil tanker or something.

i like this idea. currently crash sites ''happen'' in open fields or in general aren't habitat related, patrols spawning everywhere, on a road with vehicles involved, in towns, would really add a vital feeling to the map and exploration side of the experience.

Also maybe all the soldiers died before they shot many bullets because they were trying to avoid destroying their vehicle by swerving yet, hitting a tree. But also sometimes the patrol vehicles should be in the middle of the road as an obstruction to normal driving. Also if they were wasting ammo fighting the zeds and if what another poster (I forget who) says that patrols only bring one or two mags the ammo on these dead patrols should be low, very low; not even a full magazine.

Yep! Have a dead CDF patrol with every bit of high end loot in the game! That'll really be fun

NEver said the ammo would be full.  Results would vary.

Maybe some patrols died without firing a shot.  Maybe some expended all their ammo.  The loot could vary a lot.

I never said it would contain high end loot...  I said it would contain mid end loot.  Maybe not even that.  Notice how some things on the list have been CROSSED OUT.  That is because they were too good to be found in this.

Also I say RESULTS WILL VARY.  Some Patrols might have NOTHING worthwhile in them because they have either been picked clean or the patrol survived and the remaining soldiers looted their fallen comrades and moved on.

The wouldn't die and become a zombie. They are no undead. But I find it to be a reasonable suggestion, but I'd prefer, personally, if it was just stuff like water bottle and makarov, and rarely an akm.

Maybe a dead survival patrol!  More common then military patrol but still uncommon!  :D (lets not get off topic though)

The suggestion is still in the beta stages.  Problem with dayz is its hard to tell if something will be imbalanced or not until you have tested it.
