h3l1x 327 Posted October 30, 2013 The Internet in NZ can be particularly jumpy.I don't wanna loose days of progress everytime my brother decides he wants more Game of thrones episodes or maybe even somebody down the road, we have third world Internet...If there was a way of knowing whether or not the cord is out or its still and and you lost connection I wouldn't mind it.Aren't 15 minutes (for full health) or 29 minutes (for low health) enough for you to reconnect and perform a normal logout if you sense there are serious problems with your connection? SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 30, 2013 A simple 30 second - 1 minute delay after server disconnect would be sufficient. By the way, this is confirmed for the SA. No matter what, you don't log out until the server logs you out.

It wont make combat logging stop, it'll just make it less appealing, which is the overall goal. Edited October 30, 2013 by BigMike
TIC 1050 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) The only way I know of to help prevent it is when the player leaves an area, the player's character will remain for a certain amount of time (Let's say about 10 seconds until your character fully disappears). This ensures that in order to leave the game, you absolutely need to be in a safe area before you go. As for being in the middle of combat or about to get swarmed in by zombies and leaving; this puts a lot of fairness into gameplay into the harsh survival environment of what we call DayZ. I don't think this would be possible to place this in the mod but in the Standalone this could be very likely and has been discussed before on a tweet somewhere. I'd have to find it. There was also a discussion that if you try to combat log, this would ultimately kill your character. Rocket's Response to Combat Logging: https://twitter.com/rocket2guns/status/370672211264155648(this is from August 22nd, so we can ensure this feature is completed) This idea could even work if you happen to lose connection as people actually could use this as a method of combat logging by using a program to tinker with their connection. There are all sorts of possibilities that can exploit this issue and I believe my suggestion is the one that is relevant. SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 31, 2013 I suppose they also have to handle restrained players in a new way, to prevent them from simply terminating the connection and escaping. I imagine that the player would start struggling immediately on disconnect and once they break loose, they disappear.
harley001 315 Posted October 31, 2013 So I'd like to suggest the "marking", or "targeting" system. When I see a player that is close to me, I can target him as my "target", making it unable to log out for a short period of time. Wont that system give away the fact that I am being targeted? I can be walking down a road casually and then suddenly the combat thing ticks off. So I know someone somewhere just aimed at me allowing me to take cover when I otherwise might have been ambushed. I haven't played vanilla since the update either only Sahrani or Origins and in case you are close to a zed you have to wait 30 seconds until the abort button lights up even if you are not in combat. And beeing able to abuse the log out to see if a player is nearby won't help you that much unless the player is really close to you. And the solution for dupers is kind of "lame" but better than nothing, problem is you can't loot an area close to another player without suddenly having backpacks disappear. I was pretty confused at first before finding out the reason.
