Mile Matheson 1 Posted October 26, 2013 Well, As you all know the idea of damage-able clothing will be most likely implemented into DayZ Standalone. As a lot of players are excited to see this, many don't care for the recent showing in the Dev Blog. I'd like to purpose a few options on how to fix clothing once it's damaged. Option A: A Simple tool similar to the ones in your tool belt this tool would be a sewing or patching kit. You can have different variations of them, meaning a patching kit could only repair a piece of clothing to a certain percent, and a sewing kit would completely repair it. Option B: Similar to Option A, you would only have one tool and that can be named either a Sewing or Patching kit and that tool would repair clothing completely. Option C: Similar to Option A or B, you would need to find material in order to repair your cloths. Similar to fixing a vehicle you need not only a tool, but supplies to do such. As for additional input and variables, well I suppose this would have to be smiled upon before deeper work was done. Thoughts?
leviski 2152 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Damaged Clothing is already implemented, and confirmed. Im not sure if we will ever be able to fix it though Edited October 26, 2013 by leviski
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Yeah, it's a good idea. They could create multiple textures or material states which could reflect your repairs on the clothing item, that would be nice. Also you should be able to use duct tape, cloth, thread, and needles could all be used to repair clothes or equipment. He knows that items can get damaged, leviski. He's suggesting ways that players could repair damaged items. Edited October 26, 2013 by SalamanderAnder
joe_mcentire 2074 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) i fear it would be too tedious...however the least tedious seems option A. and this one i actually like.but i say everyone has a toolkit to repair his/her clothes to some extent (as you proposed). And the sewing kit is actual loot to fully repair your stuff.there are otherwise too many little slightly tedious things that - combined - would create a huge tedious piece of sh*t i guess. so my proposal:everyone starts with a patching kitpatching kit allows "repairing" of clothes or backpacks only to some extent. However patching things needs time and leaves you in a vulnerable situation.Sewing kits can be found in almost every household.Sewing kits can restore 100% of original conditionSewing kits are limited in uses (e.g. only 1 time)useing sewing kits also needs time, maybe even more. Mile Matheson 1 Posted October 26, 2013 You do provide a good point.. I'm now leaning towards Option A with your adjustments as well.
christopher.hill449@gmail.com 314 Posted October 27, 2013 Yup, a bandit like me will enjoy sitting around with needle and thread fixing my ass stained undies. :P
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 27, 2013 I would like to see a needle and thread its the most basic way I can think if mending something. For patches you could always use... Duct tape.
NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted October 28, 2013 Sounds like a decent idea, like Kevlar would be hard to find a patch for. Leather would be easier and cloth the easiest.

Krobar 75 Posted October 30, 2013 You fix damaged clothing by tearing it up and using it as bandaging and bandanas.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted October 30, 2013 TBH I don't really see the point in fixing t-shirts etc. when you could just find a new one. The items that will be worth fixing are things like tac vests that won't be so easy to come by and I'm not sure how you'd fix something like that. A needle and thread more than likely wouldn't do it.
TIC 1050 Posted October 30, 2013 I go with Option A. I think this option would be useful because damaged clothing would cause more risks. Damaged clothing would put survivors in risk such as cold weather meaning you could get sick easier.Gives you a more clean appearance on your character instead of looking like a mess.Could also sew/patch tents that are damaged if possible.Depending on the condition of the needle required for sewing, it could have a higher chance of breaking. Needles that are in excellent conditions will last much longer. Now all we need is working washing machines kind of like this one that was teased ;)
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 30, 2013 makes it even waterproof :O!!Why not change a roll of duct tape into duct tape super suit.100% protection from the elements.Want bullet proofing? Wrap that shitty cold vest in duct tape and chuck it on.
