Mid/Higher end gaming comp - Low fps

Recommended Posts

After coming back to dayz after a few months of a break, I had found that on the settings I had originally gotten 40-60 fps on now give me extremely low fps while barely tapping into my resources. I've even tried wiping my hard drive, thinking there might be a driver issue somewhere deep down, but even after re-installing all new drivers, re-installing the game, I still get these terrible fps. I've tried all the small document tricks, none have helped significantly. Any suggestions are welcome.

Build:

I7-3770k @ 3.5 GHz

Sapphire Readon HD 7970

16GBs ram

EDIT: After trying 30 or so servers, I found one, it was a max 20 server with 12 ping, and I'm getting great fps (with 200% 3D rez and maxed settings) with absolutely no shuddering(which was a huge problem) and about 40 fps in the middle of cherno?! HOW?... I wonder what's different about this server...

Here's an image of some info

What are you playing? Vanilla DayZ? Epoch? Which server?

Those are all variables we don't know and even though you give us a lot of information about your computer there's barely any use in that, as we need to know thos other things.

If it's Vanilla DayZ (Currently 1.8.0.3) and on every server you join you have a problem.

If it's on a specific server and for example on Epoch it is very likely to happen to you.

I have the 4770K @ 3.5 Ghz and get between 50-85 FPS, I also have a GTX780 and saw the most frame increase using Geforce Experience, Is there a Radeon equiverlent ?

Your GPU & CPU should be fine, just some small tweaking but as i say, mine was automatic with GF-Experience

Thought I would also mention, there's a huge amount of shuddering, no idea if that makes any difference

I woulda said drivers first but you have tried that. How old is the PC? I only ask because I have experienced FPS drops of up to 50% just because my heatsink blades were completely clogged with dust. I smoke a lot so I blame that, but maybe you have the same issue.

A few other little things to try....

1) hit, start, then type power...go into power options and make sure you have it on high performance so it uses all of you resourses.

2) make sure video memory is set to default in-game so it uses everything you have.

3) (I carnt see this being the issue if you have wiped your drive) but maybe try cleaning the registary with something like Ccleaner.

4)  also a clogged GPU fan/heatsink can have a huge effect on performance, and if your CPU fan is clogged likely your GPU is aswell.

The computer's less than 6 months old, GPU fans clear, same with my aftermarket cpu cooler.... After trying 30 or so servers, I found one, it was a max 20 server with 12 ping, and I'm getting great fps (with 200% 3D rez and maxed settings) with absolutely no shuddering(which was a huge problem) and about 40 fps in the middle of cherno?! JESUS THIS GAME IS BEAUTIFUL

If anyone knows what's different about 192.154.107.50:2302 that server, I would love to get your opinion?

Hosted on a dedicated server and not oversold like most providers do ? my best guess

Feel free to try the server in my sig (Not a shameful plug :p ) as that is also a high end dedi with only 5 mods running, at least you'll know if it's server related or client side.

Your computer isn't the issue your settings are.

1. Turn off AA and post-prosessing

2. Profit

I appreciate the obvious time and effort you put into thinking and responding to my question, but as you can see, my gpu is only at 20% load, lowering all my settings to min barely stepped up the fps by 10

Your GPU will never be at anything more than 20-30% load sir, as ARMA2 is primarily CPU intensive. Now I didn't need to put much effort into my original answer because all I got outta your post was "ALL MY SETTINGS ARE MAXED TO THE EXTREME! EXTREME CHEDDAR YEAH!!!*". Your going to experience FPS issues in just about any server with more than 10 players. The way ARMA works is it renders and send you data related to anything and everything that is going on around the map, regardless of where you are. The more players = the more info = the long it takes to recieve = FPS starts to compensate for desync. Now, disabling those settings IS what you should do even if you get 10 FPS extra. Any extra FPS you can squeeze is a win in my book.

Just to give you a idea I have a 3770k OC'd to 5ghz, 16gb ram, 2x SLI 660ti 3gb (6gb t/VRAM), with AA and PP off, and I get max about 60FPS on epoch. The only time I have ever gotten in the 80-120 range is when the server was at extremely low population.
