Will you be able to use items right off the ground?

 

If your packs are full and you come across something useable you should be able to just use it. 

 

same goes with weapons and mags. You can load up a mag drop it on the ground, if your in the vicinity of it and it goes with your weapon you can reload.

You can hold objects in your hand already, if that's what you meant. You can just drop the item into your 'holding' slot, and it doesn't go into your inventory.

Yes the new inventory is so far so good, and is still being worked on (but is not holding the game back ^_^), You can stack ammo, then load em all into for example the stanag mag. Which takes 5.62 rounds, and it's all done in real-time, like the attatchments, when you're adding stuff to your gun, it's on the floor and you're actually adding it. The item storage is best in the backpack, but you can have small items in your hoodey, jeans, coat zip etc. When you are shot in for example, the chest, the items in your shirt will be damaged, along with the shirt.
