Sugar Jakobs 20 Posted October 19, 2013 Hello, everyone! I think I'll make this a thread for me to share my personal experiences with the people that desire death and chaos over life and peace, in these dark times. I also would like you all to remember that I have only been in DayZ and entire day (today) since my break from the game a long, long time ago. I'll begin with two stories! I loaded up an overwatch server to see what the difference was between it and vanilla, surprised to find that the military loot was much more broad in spectrum and convenient to locate. My friend and I hopped into a UAZ that was near the coast, just left in the middle of nowhere and set off to see the sights again. Finding our way to Devil's Castle, we ran across a jeep that was driving in the opposite direction. Quickly, we turned off the road and got out - weapons ready for a conflict if there was to be one; but not before shouting the classic 'Freindly!' call-sign, which we also got one in return. There were three men in total within the jeep, though they didn't seem all that friendly to us. Only one had the good grace to leave his vehicle to greet us, but they soon turned away and drove off about 200 meters away - leaving us with the impression that they didn't much care for us. Getting back into our UAZ and continuing on our way, I peeked out the back windshield and spotted a secondary cloud of dust, indicating that they were following us. Urging my friend to keep moving forwards and into the next treeline, we rushed back out and got behind some thick trees for cover. Once they were within range, I called out again, questioning why they were following us - only to hear their faint voices as they too exited their vehicles a mere 150 meters away. "Let's kill them." Oh, they were in for it now. I glanced at my partner, who lined up his sniper and took the first shot in retaliation, nailing the jeep with a loud clank. The three immediately went to take cover, but one sadly couldn't make it as I rinsed him thoroughly with a cleansing stream of hot lead. Now see, the thing about 14 year old bandits is that they typically don't think their cover through, nor about who they're messing with. It didn't take the sharpest eye to notice that they parked on an incline, the jeep having rather high suspension and in turn leaving them (as they've now gone prone behind it) rather open. With another few seconds of burst fire on their position, the three died - not a single shot having been fired in return. A fitting massacre to the silly, blood-thirsty teens. As for my second story... My partner and I parted ways soon after the conflict, mostly due to his need to shoot people on sight. I found another server, one that was still vanilla DayZ but with more buildings and such scattered throughout Chernarus. I spawned just east of Elektro, leading me to think that I may as well just go see what was going on in there. With the successive firing of sniper rifles and what sounded like an AK, I discretely made my way ip the southern side of Sniper Hill, spotting a couple of bandits hiding behind trees near each other. Seeing as I was completely unarmed, I decided to try and sneak up on them - hoping to snatch a gun from their bags and deal with them smartly. After about five minutes of careful crouching and rolling about, I ended up directly behind them - the two completely unaware of my presence. Now, this is where it got a bit interesting. As soon as I opened the bag of the nearest bandit, I noted that it made an odd noise. And that the UI for it was completely different to what I was used to seeing. This server was apparently very unique. So unique in fact that the two bandits were now completely alerted to my presence, due to the fact that it had just sounded as though I'd unzipped and flopped my junk out for the world to see - right beside their ears. They turned silently, looking at the unarmed survivor as he simply laid prone in the grass behind them - speechless. I took the initiative."Well hello there!" Suffice it to say, they were amazed by the fact that I'd managed to sneak up on the two of them and get into their backpacks (which were both empty), offering me a sidearm and a hatchet to solve my peaceful nature. Accepting them with delight, I asked them what they were up to ( at this stage also noticing that the initial bandit turbans they were sporting had since disappeared within the draw distance, replaced with a camo outfit and a normal survivor's skin), trying to play off the fact that I had almost killed them if the circumstances were right. Seeing as they didn't kill me, I accepted their offer to hang out with them - another of their friends rocking up a few moments later with a Dragunov rifle, which I rather liked the look of. Nevertheless, these people weren't on my kill list any longer - as they certainly spared me. We headed off, down back to the shoreline where I had previously spotted a car in need of repairs. Foregoing them, we continued past and towards the unique compounds scattered throughout the server; a castle much like Devil's Castle, only the insides were all wrong - a hospital, some barracks and a factory replacing what would have been towers. We continued scavenging from these, slowly getting more and more geared up as we went until we finally said our goodbyes - my gear now primed for action. From having absolutely nothing, I came across a DMR, M14 AIM, Ghilli suit, a tonne of supplies and an interesting experience with what people usually think are the scum of the island. What about you guys? Had any similar experiences? Or perhaps some questions? I'm open to any comments! Also, before you ask; I am trying to run as a hero at the moment, meaning that I won't be shooting anyone that doesn't have a turban unless fired upon first. Any other heroes out there? TLDR; I killed some noobs, got geared up travelling with some bandits even though I'm doing a hero run.

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 19, 2013 Does this happen in all servers now? All I know is it was introduced with 1.8. That's also why you saw a new gear menu. Non-vanilla servers may or may not have it.

I was shocked at first, then it made sense. Great to see some new additions to the mod! Damn, gave me a surprise though when the sound happened and the two bandits turned on me immediately. Luckily, I had the charm to pull off a life-saving friendship.
callsignBravo (DayZ) 323 Posted October 19, 2013 I don't like bandits because most just Shoot on site, but i have respect for bandits that pretend to be your freind then kill you or steal your stuff. TLDR; I killed some noobs, got geared up travelling with some bandits even though I'm doing a hero run. Just because they have a bandit skin doesnt mean they kill everything they can a all cost, kill unarmed survivors or etc. One can easily get a a bandit skin from just killing survivors that shoot first. I would almost say its harder to not get a bandit skin than it is to get a bandit skin, especially if you stay alive for long periods of time. No matter how hard you try to not kill people its like 95% of players leave you no choice. I run into people who have no more than an axe when I have an AR and they come at me swinging. I will even run to try to avoid killing them but they just keep coming to the point I have to shot them. Like the sole reason they play is to kill people and nothing else crosses their mind from the moment they spawn.

It won't stop me from killing thee bandit but i respect them more than your average SOS 13 year old that squeak over direct chat. Thats got to be one of the easiest ways to kill people. Lure them in with offers of friendship and then kill them. Maybe even be friendly at first so the person lets down there gaurd so you can shoot them in the back of the head with no resistance. What makes it even easier to kill people in this manner is that most people who fall for these tricks are noobs. I have more respect for spawn killers in Bolota who have custom loadouts. The Bean Marine 29 Posted October 19, 2013 Well i often end up in people firing at me even though i didn't kill em on sight. Often ends up in them getting killed and me unharmed, but i had to change my signature.
Sugar Jakobs 20 Posted October 20, 2013 For the people that often talk about having to kill on sight, just know that with the right positioning you don't have to kill anybody. But when you're working towards a goal and someone gets in the way of that goal, then and only then do I think KOS can be appropriate. For example, when you're moving to raid the airfields and many, many gunshots have been fired with players dying left and right. Clearly, it is a war zone and not fit for those that are unwilling to shoot first. But that's just one example.
Sugar Jakobs 20 Posted October 21, 2013 Here comes another story. Spawned in cherno, managed to grab a machete and run off towards Balota to try and sneak through the hangars before heading up north. Flanked around the whole way, hearing a variety of gunfire - waiting for it to die down a bit before heading in for some looting. I tried to grab some things from the hangars, but the zombies were aggroing hard. I sprinted off and came across a barracks (not sure if that was unique to that server or not) which was filled completely and I mean COMPLETELY with survivor and bandit corpses. Obviously this was a hotspot for gunfights. As I turned around to run off, I noticed a survivor spawn in with a double barrelled shotgun, surrounded by the zombies that had been chasing me. He turned and looked at me, a man in a bandit skin (unfortunately) wielding a machete. I spoke over local chat, saying "Don't you dare shoot that at me. I'm friendly." he didn't respond and simply lined up before firing on me. I took a hit on the hip, but kept my legs and my consciousness surprisingly. I sprinted around the corner of the barracks, rather irate now. "Oh, you're so dead." I told him. The silly bambi comes running around the corner after me, only to take a machete to the knee and lose a leg. The next hit sealed the deal, as I dug the blunt blade into his thick skull, where what I assume his miniscule brain remained. Bleeding, vision blurring, I manage to say "I warned you." before the zombies pick me apart and drag me to death's hand. I lost even more humanity because of this, by the way. Now rocking -57k. All in a day's work. For those of you who do not know, I'm trying to be the nice guy here.

Sugar Jakobs 20 Posted October 22, 2013 From what I have read you encountered amateurs. The first batch especially. The first batch were clearly not thinking things through, that was obvious enough to us. But at the same time I'm not here to discuss the difference between amateurs and professionals - especially seeing as they will all kill me anyway, if it benefits them. This is really just a place for me to dump some fun stories for you guys to read if you're bored or interested!

NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted October 23, 2013 I had experiences similar to those, except that when I was seen and was unarmed, I was killed on sight for no reason. So actually, now that I think about it nothing like that has ever happened to me.

Duckseazon 2 Posted October 23, 2013 sounds like the game needs more incentives for helping other players ^^
Sugar Jakobs 20 Posted October 24, 2013 All I got out of this thread was another whinefest about KOS.So, where exactly was I whining? If I recall correctly, I am just putting up some stories I think are entertaining enough that people won't think it was a waste of time to read it. If you're only here to troll the comments, then I ask you kindly to take it elsewhere mate.
SteveLord 32 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) To be more specific I actually enjoyed the story. But then others basically turned it into KOS whining. Edited October 24, 2013 by SteveLord
Sugar Jakobs 20 Posted October 24, 2013 I suppose people get frustrated that they can't live out some of these stories? Not to say that any of them are jealous or anything of the sort - I mean that sometimes it becomes rather hard to even have an adventure in this game when you get shot frequently. But that's just my opinion, I suppose.
Merc13 11 Posted October 26, 2013 I don't know if if can add my story about my first encounter with bandits, but here goes-I spawn on the coast and am making my way toward a small town when I see another survivor and he is dragging a bunch of zombies behind him. He is trying to kill them all with his pistol(I only have a baseball bat), so I tell him to get in the bushes and we start trying to kill them when a jeep rolls up and stops-I thought "cool, friendlies" and jump in with the other guy and the jeep drives off. I see the guys have bandit skins, and get the vibe that they are going to try something-I tell them in direct that we'll jump out here and thanks for the ride-as we get out they do to, and of course they start shooting. I run around the jeep and as they are trying to kill my new friend I get one with the bat, and the other bandit must have changed his mind because he jumps back in the jeep and drives off with my new friend shooting at him with his pistol. I was so busy laughing that I didn't see the horde coming and got knocked down and munched. My new friend didn't last more than three seconds either, but it was still bandits 0 and us 1, and of course zombies 2. Three weeks into this game and nothing like that has happened again. todd10k 87 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Best bandit story? Coming off the hill to the west of cherno that has the lone residental on it, found a nice g17 in cherno firestation and was proceeding west towards balota, all of a sudden hear shots crack over my head. Drop to the ground, i'm right at the coast near the overturned dinghy. Proceed to scream over mic "cease fire cease fire i am friendly" No response, shots keep ringing out. One connects with my leg sticking out from the end and snaps it in two. I'm now bleeding heavily and have broken legs. I manage to locate his position in the grass about 100 meters away. With 2k blood left and no options on the table i time my roll out of cover, a shot hits me in the foot as i roll out, line up his head with my now shaking violently g17, *pop*. One shot, one kill. He had about 20 stanag mags and a m4a1 cco, czech and cz. Looted his body dropped an out of ammo enfield i'd found on the corpse and took a position in the house on the hill and waited. Sure enough, along he came 5 minutes later. Lined up the sights and, well, you can guess what happened next. Edited October 28, 2013 by DNolan
