playing dead opossum style

hi, i've searched the forums but play+dead brings up every fucking topic..

 

and if we'd be able to fake our death? i mean proning and assuming a dead stance.

 

unarmed survivor could play dead in elektro FS while the nasty bandit who killed all those guys is still around.

 

- being able to open guys' inventory now makes this possible and only studying a body you could find out he's     alive.

 

-being shot and lose line of sight could save your life by faking your death..some loot(how much can a bandit carry?) instead of a whole life lost.

I like it, but seems Unorthodox . Having to shoot every dead person around you to check isn't handy.

 

And are you going to have a jar of flies around you every time?.

As long as there's no kill feed.

People don't know when it's safe to enter.

Don't be surprised if your shot I the head while attempting this though :) IMO if the bullet wounds were more visible it would be great.

They see a hole in your head they don't have to worry.

They see but one hole in your leg and they'll be very suspicious, this along with an autopsy option that is actually good would make a winner.

Also it would be unrealistic if a guy searching your body didn't notice you breathing after you'd been shot!

this in SA could be resolved by the messages on screen: you are thirsty etc.---could be..the body seems to breath/moves

 

 

not everybody could think about flyes..also cause i didn't read nothing about them in SA AND they could come lately and not instantly in SA

 

it's a solution to situations where you'll be already at high risk of death.

 

and i'm sure not everybody will go checking or double tapping all the bodies he found/killed, plus checking a body is something you actually do IRL and could be easily added to our gameplay without obsessing it too much or breaking it.

 

and yes we'd need better wounds rendering.

This idea is good and I don't think it's new. I don't even think there is any need of discussion that because obviously there is no reason why it should not be inplemented.

This won't work. People will probably always carry a meele weapon and hit everything that lies on the ground. And people will learn to study the body. And, what is your life worth without your loot? Isn't it better to try to save that ammo, that weapon that you searched 10h+ for?

Exactly...new players will have no idea that you could be playing dead, and in some cases where, if say you were running, a bandit may take a few slow steps to shoot you and keep running with his train. But if he sees a body and has a train the effort of loosing the train and getting to the corpse could be too much....and he just runs on by.

 

Sure it would be nice to keep all loot but, id take playing dead and keeping my toolbelt items than dying outright. Maybe a new drug could be introduced...like an epi pen but opposite effect. Makes you really look dead. We could have to harvest it from...oh I don't know a tree....or a specific plant....maybe an animal like a toad.

Any effort in doing and kind pf death or fake animation would be very useless anyway. Either players would just pull off another shot or in most cases...

I agree. Although your character should blink randomly, and you can see him breathing

Wouldn't you close your eyes and hold your breath if you are "playing dead?" Otherwise you aren't playing dead, you're just laying down.

Holding your breath IMO would be a mistake.

Just try to breath very quietly and not too often.

People more commonly die with their eyes open aswell don't they?

Maybe that could be a way to tell if a player is dead or unconscious, unconscious has eyes closed dead has a blank stare.

In reality if somebody was close enough to be touching what they thought to be a lifeless body then you could never really play dead.

Your pulse would be going wild aswell as your breathing if they were more interested in confirming a kill through a scope or from a distance than actually trying to grab some gear then it might work.

Otherwise I'd suggest camping somewhere in the building with your gun on the door.

That's the way it should be IMO.

You can't hold your breath forever. And most people die with eyes open

i don't think this , even if implemented, would be a first rank countermeasure against killing. but could be useful when you find yourself defenceless in a bad situation. like a firestation crowded with other bodies

I see it more as being hit in the leg with a sniper in an open field sort of thing.

Instead of trying to run you want to lure him in with him thinking you dead before quickly taking your gun in hand and filling him full if some shorter ranged weapon lead before he can even raise his rifle from a sprint.
