STANDALONE: Traps

Recommended Posts

This is a list of my ideas, as well as others' ideas. I do NOT take credit for every single suggestion. I'm merely putting these in a list to have some sort of idea of what people want.

Bengal Tiger Trap

1.1266255915.tiger-trap.jpg

Description:

A pit ranging from 3 - 20 feet deep lined with sharp wooden/metal spikes placed at the bottom with a layer of vegetation concealing the top of the hole. (The trap in the game would only be about a foot deep to reduce performance issues and to avoid having to climb out.)

Bear Trap

BearTrap_01.jpga203455b-ef09-4c5a-be36-5

Description:

A trap that bites into a victims leg cause possible bone fractures/breaks, substantial blood loss, and limited mobility. This has already been confirmed.

Snare Trap

086.jpg

Description:

Consist of a rope, tree branch as a pulley, a counterweight, and a triggering system. The victim walks over the loop setting off the trigger, thus releasing the counterweight in which hoists the victim up above the ground in an up-side-down position.

Tripwire

Trip_wire.png

 Description:

A small wire tied on one end to a solid object, and the other end to a triggering system. The trigger then sets off anything from a grenade, to a pile of boulders on a cliff, to...well...anything.

This is all I have at the moment. Please comment any traps I missed or ones you think should be in Standalone.

1: Pits aren't going to work; ArmA just can't do that.

2: Bear traps? Awesome idea.

I get your sarcasm and I'm not amused. And if you read the descriptions, maybe you'd see I have already acknowledged what you posted. With the new engine, we have more possibilities as far as map manipulation. It all comes down to what Dean can do with the engine. If he's able to manipulate the map, then the tiger traps will work. Any other trap I listed should work.

What sarcasm...  I think pit traps won't work either.  Arma just cant handle holes in the ground.  Even the standalone.  Remember the stand alone isn't a brand new super epic thing.  Its just a arma 3 version of dayz with a lot of love put in it.

Not arma 3, take on helicopters.

I hope they have the same heli controls actually.

Piloting them might actually be really complex...

There was no sarcasm in that post whatsoever.

The Standalone is still the Arma 2 engine, just updated, tailored, and with imported components of the Arma 3 engine.

Player made terrain deformations are not possible on this engine. If you want a pit, you'd have to manipulate the terrain mesh with a map editor, export it save it, ect. ect.

You could never do this dynamically in-game. This particular engine simply does not support it. Discussion over.

Your OP makes me think you don't know much about the game engine :P Pits will never work....SA is a revamped arma2, new locations and features...but still arma 2 engine and limitations.

Bear traps ...already in, Trip wires....already in. And the tripwires can be used with grenades, flares and smoke.

Where in Arma have they featured trip wires? I haven't seen any before in the actual game.

I think a trap like the tree one you can use in farcry (Instincts?) that you got a spiked branch and wrap it around a tree, when triggered the branch swings around and impales your enemy. Not many good spots to use it in but it wouldnt take many materials.
