HumanBeing25 299 Posted October 12, 2013 I'm strongly considering buying Arma 2 for DayZ since the SA hasn't been released yet..but has the "lag issues" been fixed? Can a GTX 560 (non-ti) run the game at atleast 60 fps?I've heard that people with the GTX Titan are having issues run the game, so what's up with that? Also, if I were to buy the game for DayZ, would "Arma 2 Complete Edition" be the necessary purchase to install and play the mod? Thx.
fluxley 2228 Posted October 12, 2013 Your CPU is more important when it comes to arma, A gtx 560 should be fine but if you dont have a decent processor it wont help.
dgeesio 1034 Posted October 12, 2013 you wont get 60 fps constant with any rig unless some uber nasa space machine. engine is buggy and expect drops. cpu is very important. dont expect 60 fps expect smoothness. aim for 30 fps minimums.
HumanBeing25 299 Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Your CPU is more important when it comes to arma, A gtx 560 should be fine but if you dont have a decent processor it wont help.I got an i5-3570K @ 3.40GHzCPU dependent games like Planetside2 run very good. How about the purchase? Which edition is necessary? I of course want to spend the least amount of money, and I'm going to play DayZ epoch or whatever it's called. Like the "network bubble" Dean Hall is working on for standalone?
fluxley 2228 Posted October 12, 2013 All you need is Arma2:Combined Operations. this is a bundle that includes arma2 and arma 2 operation arrowhead. Not sure how well the i5 would perform exactly, should be playable but you're not going to get 60 fps in the city.

HumanBeing25 299 Posted October 12, 2013 OP has 244 posts on the forums for a game hes never played' watYup. I became a fan due to watching DayZ videos and Dean's great marketing strategies. I just never bought the game because of the horror stories of lag on high-end PCs, laggy zombies, cheaters, etc. yeah, all dayz mod varients require only combined operations. Thanks :)
PK Richie 507 Posted October 12, 2013 To play the game as mentioned you need ArmA and Operation Arrohead, sold together are called combined operations, It might work out cheaper seperately or bundled, shop around :)This will allow you to play any and all mods, Epoch, Overwatch, Taviana etc Considor getting the BAF (British Armed Forced) DLC, This includes better textures and makes the game look slightly and only slightly better, depends on your budget. For good FPS you need a decent CPU, I have a 4770k and GTX780, I usually get 60 FPS but it varies in some towns and can go as low as 35-40 FPS
HumanBeing25 299 Posted October 12, 2013 Bought the game, and now it's an approx. 13-14GB download, which will take 4+ hours :(
Karmaterror 982 Posted October 12, 2013 As someone mentioned the BAF addon will make the textures for camo cloathing and some guns much better. Also the default survivor skin is from the PMC addon, most you tube vids are shot with this addon so you may have a very basic looking survivor skin. For lag your grapics and processor sounds fine, im smooth 99.9% of the time on a phenom x4 2.8ghz with a crappy eco GTS 450 graphics card. That with most settings on high and jus select things disabled likr post processing and AA. Theres a lot of guides for video options to get good results. Currently I've downloaded a bit over 8.6GB and only approx. 5GB are missing so I'll soon be able to play (hopefully)

Game is not optimized and will not give amazing fps on any rig. If you are getting 40 + after doing the optimizations posted around pastebin and the forum, then that's all you are gonna get. Finding a good server with a powerful rig is really what you want to look for.

Finding a good server with a powerful rig is really what you want to look for. I now am fully able to get in-game. I have done what Youtubers suggested with the game's settings, and used RAMDisk succesfully, and it does seem to have maybe made a slight difference. What's really irritating about Arma 2/DayZ are the braindead keyboard configurations. WHO made these idiotic configurations? For example, chat is "/", Y and U are team swapping... It's completely counter-intuitive the way it's setup. An acceptable excuse would be that the developers are Russian/use the Russian language, and use different keyboards, hence the poor conversion of settings - but unless that's the case I think it's really poorly designed in that respect. There are of course some other annoyances, such as for example that my hatchet can't kill or even hit any zombies, and that zombies will run mad until I go to a pinetree and hide under the leaves - where they can't get to me, and they'll start going back.In addition, I have to crawl to get past them, I can't turn inside a doorway, can't lock zombies outside, etc. etc.I guess I'll just have to get used to it :) until the SA
SFRGaming 718 Posted October 14, 2013 I have an i5-3570k @ 3.40 Ghz coupled with a gigabyte windforce gtx 770 overclocked edition 2 gb and 8 g's of ram. I run the game with ever setting on high (not very high since it doesn't make much of a difference), HDR on normal, and post processes on low and my fps runs 60-80 fps constantly and in cherno/elektro I get about 40-50 fps. I don;t think I have ever seen it drop below 40, ever.
boneboys 7988 Posted October 14, 2013 All keys can be rebound apart from teh F's.Binds can be doubled to great effect, including for example : lean left & right will also serve as evasive left / right while prone for rolly polly. There are many more examples.Admittedly the layout is confusing for the new player but take some time to experiment (in the editor) and you will see that there is a reason for the multitude of actions. ArmA 3 is even more complete with different stance positions.
