Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

Recommended Posts

It's a simple suggestion that I couldn't find elsewhere on the forums.

How often have you rolled into Elektro to see dead bodies in the middle of the road and just follow the trail of corpses into the fire station where the poor little survivor is trying to bandage his wounds?

I think they should enable the ability to drag the corpses of zombies so you can try and cover your tracks or even lay a fake trail to trick other players.

With tracking enemy players being an important aspect in the standalone (the ability to judge an area on whether there are any spawned or not will be fixed) there should be ample opportunity for you to cover your tracks and attempt to stay hidden.

If you were to get attacked by a zombie or two while running away from an enemy you would potentially try to hide the evidence or make it look like you went a specific direction in order to keep them off your trail - you could potentially turn it into an ambush!

Simple and easily enough implemented mechanic which could lead to interesting gameplay.

Edit: I am aware you can 'Hide' a body but for a game like DayZ it just seems like too much of a cop-out rather than a gameplay enhancing mechanic, if it were removed it would give a more authentic experience which forces the player to deal with the consequences of killing the zombie in such an obvious area.

Edit #2: Depending on how they were killed they might possibly leave a blood trail making them significantly harder to hide during the daytime.

you'd inevitably get the odd few little kids who think its a great idea to kill a load of zombies and drag their corpses into patterns such as swastikas because they're 'such hilarious guys', asides from that i think the idea is a winner. fake trails could indeed be very interesting

i'd like to drag also players bodies, not just unconsious people..let's drag everything! it could be done also for vehicles..if you first fix tires you should be able to push a car for a while, for sure on the road.

If they want to leave themselves open for a few potshots while they are making a huge cock out of zombies they can be my guest :D

There are always going to be morons but this will be a lot more awkward to abuse in comparison to spray-paint and leaving notes etc - I see bodies and I don't really care what pattern they're in, I just want to know who put them there :D

This sounds pretty interesting too.

If you have a car in suitable condition on suitable terrain you could perhaps push it if it were to run out of fuel with the help of a friend to the nearest petrol station.

You'd be mobile but very vulnerable, pretty good trade-off in my eyes.

I really like the idea, imagine this scenario;

It's dusk in the deep woods of chernarus.

After 3 days of reconnaissance you have finally found a player going along a trading line.

You see a line of zombies bodies going from the edge of a road deep into the woods

You come across a cabin in the woods, a fire burns slowly near some tents.

You approach the tents, only to be surrounded by a group of gunmen.

You've fallen into a trap and must find a way out quickly.

That is the kind of scenario that would use the bodies beautifully.

I SUPPORT THIS!

i was thinking about moving the vehicle you are fixing..as solo player i've died and i've killed multiple times in that situation..find a better position to defend yourself by jackals and campers while working..once i died once and killed two guys to repair the moto spawning at cherno petrol station..if you could find the wheels and move it to the nearest hill it would be easier to finish your task.

and about bodies..both zombies and players i see this really needed:

set ambushes, cover tracks, save your loot(you killed a guy and find yourself under fire..dragging the body with you under cover would provide you also the dead's gear in case of a long fight,,)

Sounds pretty good.

Really, allowing the players to interact with more objects will only really make the game more dynamic as far as encounters go.

There are plenty of things that can be done to set traps, roadblocks and other obstacles that can be used to gain the upper hand in a player encounter without making it feel too.. artificial.

Solution, Daryl Dixon rides a "Yellow Horse" and shoots his crossbow to escape.

Thats right Daryl, I know your secret.

OT: Good Idea though, 1 can of beans coming your way.

Nice idea, is this intended for SA, Mod or both?

Well, primarily the standalone as it would require new animations to be done if it were to look decent(And with 'Hide Body' in the mod it's rendered a little pointless) but I guess it would work well enough if they were just to ass the 'Drag' type animation that they do to unconscious players in the mod also.

Using ingenuity rather than straightforward brute strength should be rewarded and setting false trails and hiding your tracks should be included in this - it would also work well together with the radios in the standalone.

Would be cool with ragdoll aswell.

I would have a special mass grave cliff.

At the bottom there would be a pile of rotting dead zombies and humans with awkwardly broken arms and legs from the rough ride down.

Dead bodies could also be used as zombie bait.

A very interesting addition.

Perhaps if zombies were left dead for a longer period they would possibly spread infection if you have any open wounds and come in to close conact - this would necessitate either moving the bodies into a makeshift grave or using them tactically to try and infect others (e.g. If you pin someone in a building that refuses to move and you have some sort of anti-infection HASMAT suit or gasmask w/ filters you could conduct some chemical warfare using the corpses :P

Dragging is a good option, carrying also works in ArmA.

But...if you have to fight and leave a big mess behind you already made a mistake...you weren't stealthy enough, you drew attention, you leave a trail...you deserve to be caught with your pants down :P

You can't use the virus...we are immune. A corpse usually won't do you any harm unless you "play" with it.

That is true - if you killed them somewhere obvious it's your own fault - the drag/move mechanic would allow players to help cover their tracks at a cost of reduced movement speed and leaving themselves open to attack (if they are dragging with both hands).

I feel it's a pretty balanced trade-off if you're trying to stay hidden since you leave yourself significantly more vulnerable while trying to fix your mistake.

I didn't mean the zombie virus specifically, rotting flesh will leave all sorts of nasties around - although not as quickly for it to make any real sense in this case - it was just a random thought.. I tend to ramble. :P
