Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted October 3, 2013 I've been thinking, won't it be best if Bohemia ports Standalone to the Steam OS? I understand that you can stream from your main PC, but what about the people that are buying the Steambox itself? I understand that Bohemia is sort of become Valve's bitch(gain some independence, jeesh), so it would make sense and I don't see hardware as an issue as I'm 100% sure it could run it. So, who else thinks they should make a Steambox version of DayZ? I'd think it'd be great for both sales and popularity. But I'd probably own all those poor sods with that awkward looking controller. But still, I think it'd be great if it was ported over.
fluxley 2228 Posted October 3, 2013 I sure hope it will be, but it probably wouldn't happen until after the full release of the standalone.
jukaga 271 Posted October 3, 2013 I would be shocked if it isn't SteamOS compatible.
fluxley 2228 Posted October 3, 2013 I would be shocked if it isn't SteamOS compatible. Me neither, but if Valve want SteamOS to actually have some success they need to be doing everything they can to encourage game devs to port their games over.
St. Jimmy 1631 Posted October 3, 2013 What SteamOS is? Everything is based on Windows and DirectX so how SteamOS handles those?
fluxley 2228 Posted October 3, 2013 What SteamOS is? Everything is based on Windows and DirectX so how SteamOS handles those?SteamOS is Linux based and uses OpenGL, Valves source engine has already been ported over (with a claimed upto 20% performance increase) and crytek are already working on porting the cryengine over. Also AMD and Nvidia are both showing interest in improving their graphics drivers for OpenGL.
colekern 1364 Posted October 3, 2013 What SteamOS is? Everything is based on Windows and DirectX so how SteamOS handles those? It uses OpenGL, so it all comes down to whether or not the Real virtuality engine can be ported to it.
St. Jimmy 1631 Posted October 4, 2013 Then it probably needs a lot of work and I wouldn't have any high hopes except if Rocket suddenly says they're hiring someone to do it or way after the launch if they're sure they can get enough money out of it.
