22 hour day.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. So, I saw this pretty cool idea on reddit, and although I couldn't find the original post, I decided to post the basic idea here.

Basically, the suggestion is to change the 24-hour day to a 22-hour day. Why? Well, a lot of people have a very narrow window in which to play DayZ, due to work or school. Some people might only be able to play at say, 3:30 PM, while someone else might only have a chance to play at 8:30 PM. Both of these people will always either have to play on day or night due to the fact that they can only play at certain points during the day.

This is where the the 22-hour day comes in. Let's say I log on at 1:30 in real life, and it's 1:30 in-game. Due to the 22-hour day, if I logged back in the next day at 1:30 in real-life, it would be 3:30 in-game. If I logged in the next day at the same-time it real-life, it would be 5:30 in-game. If I logged in the next day at the same-time it real-life, it would be 7:30 in-game. I think you get the point.

This way, everyone would experience day and night an equal amount in DayZ, regardless of when they log on.

If you're worried about this affecting the in-game clock too much, don't be. This would only make each second slightly faster by about .094 seconds. The human reaction is normally around .15-.30, so the change wouldn't be very noticeable.

Hmm... It's an interesting idea. Of course, you could just play on a different server, but I suppose you'd lose any vehicles or constructions you might have... So it's definitely elegant.

My only gripe is that I would personally like to be able to experience more than a single day in a play session, if I've got the day off or whatever. But it would definitely be a good option for servers that want to maintain a more realistic time scale.

Nicely thought out. I would like it in SA so much. But nights shouldnt be pitch black then. About playing on different server...If it is a public hive, time for whole Europe is different from the US. People wouldnt hop, because time would be same on European ones and the ping would scare them off from US ones.

I love this idea!

On some servers all you get is night because it uses your IRL region time and on others you might want the night because the zombies are pretty much blind and you can just walk through the open.

My favourite time for being about is early morning though when its just light enough to see what your looking at, but zombies have that bad eyesight still.

Tis a good idea for sure. But I hope there will be servers with a quicker day and night cycle. I have a family and am lucky to game for an hour or two a night, so yeah it would be nice to have at least one day and night cycle per gaming session. Instead of waiting several RL days to see night time, or day time in game. Either way, it would not stop me from playing.

Great idea! Although they need to fix night time a bit before implementing.

Personally I really like the real-time day/night cycle and would hate to see it go.

I wouldn't oppose the idea of this being a server side option though. As long as I can still play with 24 hour days it's all good...

But 22 hours is still really long.  I don't think you would notice much of a difference except that each day you would log in at a different time.

I like this idea a lot personally.  But options are always great!

Yes options are good.

Some want PVP pace, some want medium nomad pace and some want slow camping paced.
