A Heart for the Lonewolfs (Health system discussion!)

I started playing as a Lonewolf (again) a while ago when my friends stopped playing and i find it incredibly hard to keep my blood/health at a decent level as a Lonewolf. Once you lost blood (due to gunfights and/or zombie encounters) there is nearly no way at all to get HP back....

 

The new food/hp-regeneration system introduced in 1.7.7.1 was a blessing and a curse imo. The idea to regenerate HP over time when eating food is very good and it prevents insta-heal a lot of HP in the middle of a gunfight with 10x cow meat f.e..

However, i think the system is not perfectly thought trough because it was the only way a lonewolf could regenerate HP in a decent way. Every now and then you would have stumbled across a cow and you carried ~3500HP with you in case shit hit the fan. Basically it was like a self-bloodbag with ~25% HP which took 6 slots...nothing overpowered imo! Now with the new mechanic, it seems like you have to wait forever to eat the next piece of meet so that you get the full HP from it (i dont know the exact timer etc. sry). Also i think the pieces dont give the same HP that they used to. Not to mention there are other new threads which make life harder like the improved and way more evil Zombies compared to the 1.7.6.1. Zeds.

 

I remember when i used to play with my squad, we just hit the town with a UAZ or whatever, raided the hospital and we had 10 bloobags again. Everybody was at full HP all the time and when you lost some, there was 20 BBs in the trunk of the car! ;) It was SO easy. Keeping your HP up as a Lonewolf is like a 100 times harder then when playing with a friend or a squad. I KNOW playing as a LW is supposed to be harder (of course!) but not THAT much harder! Once you hit 50% blood its basically gg because you have to hang around in the forest for days, eating beans and meat every 10 minutes to get ~2% HP back a piece. :( I KNOW it is a survival game but there is a thin line between authenticity and boredom/annoying gameplay!

 

Here are some ideas i can think of. Please dont get crazy about it. Its just some Brainstorming-quick-ideas:

 

1. Tweak the food/HP-regen system. F.e. stick with the timer but give more HP back. I dont know exactly, would need some testing i guess.

 

2. Make it possible to transfuse blood from dead players. I dont care if it is logical in a medical way. Hell, morphium doesnt heal broken bones either! Altough this would probably encourage banditry.

 

3. Introduce medkits (4000blood f.e.)! Why not? Lets be honest, the 12000 "blood" is just the same thing then 100HP in other games. I think Rockets idea was not to make it "gamey" so he didnt took "HP" and introduced "blood" but in the end it turned out to be just the same thing!

 

4. Give HP for resting/sleeping. Make it possible for the the character to rest/sleep and slowly regen blood. Maybe 15% for one hour or smth. When you log out your char stays in the game and will get replaced by an AI (killable of course!). But i guess this would be a problem with server restarts and probably also be a trip to coding hell! :P

 

 

Well guys, i hope you get what i basically wanna say. IMO there is currently no descent way to get blood back as a LW. Once you get in a shitty situation, you are stuck with it. I know squadplay should be easier then Lonewolfing but not a 100 times, 10 times is enough!

 

What do you think? Do you share my opinion in gerneral? A Heart for the Lonewolfs! :)

Playing solo comes with disadvantages, you know it yourself since you have team experience. But i wouldn't want to have convinced solo players to have the same or almost the same advantage as team players since most of them chose to play that way just because team players lose their team, just find new ones instead.

Recognise the struggle and the loss of inventory for just in case supplies of meat.

Think its ok though, It's the price I pay for playing Han solo

 

I do ask for blood in return if I'm medic mode and I'm low myself and perhaps offer assistance more often when I'd otherwise have more selfish things to do.

 

Also a blood bag isn't an instant 100% anymore either so both meat and transfusion involve more time to restore full health.

It only takes a minute or so before you can eat your next bit of food,

Plus blood transfusions have a good chance of giving infection, unless i have a good supply of antibiotics i only use them if desperate.

i really don't have a problem with the regen system.

I think a good way to balance it would be to allow single players to use Bloodbag.

If you are using it on yourself it gives you a reduced amount - if the bloodbag was changed to a 'Blood over time' rather than the current 'insta-blood' type thing it has, I reckon it would balance pretty well.

It would still allow players to bloodbag each other, it would allow players to bloodbag themselves(which is less efficient) and it would mean blood bags are more of an 'out of combat' type of healing which takes a minute or so to properly get ALL of the blood from the bag.

This would also make items like the medkit items more popular as a temporary 'in-combat' level of healing.

This guy has a point, I say just remove the new food system, its boring and dulls game-play.

 

I went to school in vybor? I think and ate over 30 cans of food while I was sick only to get back a small portion of health back.

Blood bags are nonsense and would all have gone off anyway, with no electricity ... no refrigeration.  There should be a two player transfusion kit instead and it should take AGES.

 

Even as a lone wolf, it only takes far less than an hour to eat your way back to rude health from fainting, with cooked meat or MRE's.  I've done it enough times and even survived four days infected using nothing but animal steaks, though it was a ruinously bad game experience doing nothing but chase livestock.
