Clothing Degradation and more..

Recommended Posts

Okay, so Ive seen the Dev. blogs about the gear degradation.. I , just dont like it. And want to suggest things and get things off of my chest, for people to discuss about.

I dont understand the logic of and item degrading like that after a gun shot has been hit into it. It just looked plain weird. I feel almost like they are trying to make the game realistic, which to a certain degree is fun and nice and what alot of us want. Heres the thing.. with to much content added its just almost to stressful than having fun.

The standalone almost seems too "complicated," now dont get me wrong I like complicated games and such, but everything leads to another and it just doesnt end.

Also, alot of people are suggesting things that just stupid. This game is almost like a sandbox, free to do what you like. yet people dont understand that concept and try to suggest things like having a endgame, or even trying to get capture the flag added??

Anyways heres a link about the main subject which i find the be quite funny.

I don't think complicated is a bad thing. If it's done right in a streamlined and approachable way, it makes the game better. Although I do agree that the degradation is a little ridiculous right now in terms of severity, I think that's kind of the point; that way, they can balance it.

That's a good thing - everything is a conscious decision and there are trade-offs for everything you do.

The degradation that they showed in the video was fairly simplified, it's not going to magically transform like it did after a single shot, it was for ease of showing us how it changes.

People complain that there is nothing to do and now people are complaining that there is too much to do and keep track of.. the developers can't win.

Surviving in an apocalypse-type scenario like this IS stressful, it isn't meant to be easy, the world is out to get you and there is no hand holding - it might be a pain in the ass but it's a challenge and challenges are fun.

If people are looking for a simple and quick 'pick up and play for an hour' type game, this really isn't it - like you said, there are people that want to add capture-the-flag and other shitty meta-games to DayZ, these are normally the players that go away as soon as the next 'big' thing comes out and leaves all the players that enjoy DayZ for DayZ.

Rockets whole thing on, adding gear degrades, will decrease KOS?! Thats crazy. I never kill for peoples gear, but I kill because thats just my instinct, and knowing later on they can be a great threat to me.

I like DayZ, and have played it for months, and I love challendges but I just get upset with all this stuff that just seems like to much. I cant have a good judgement on it though until I can try it out. Thats why I am not fully against what they want to implement.

Although what I hate is the fact that they are trying to change the 3rd person, laying postion, to go up to ones shoulder view. So people can see past walls easily. They its just fustrating. Alot of people want the game to be 1st person, but that just make it more of a KOS type game. And I like to be able to see my character and I feel much more involved while in third person.

The biggest problem and the best solution is "Options." With options people can decide what they want and dont want on a server. The biggest mistake they are making, is forcing people to have to do what they want. But again, its there game they decide.

I just love it when people talk about this and dont refer to Dean's most recent video with him explaining he upped the degradation percentage to showcase in the video. When the game is released, the degradation of items will be MUCH MUCH lower than what was shown in the video. Degradation had to be implemented to be honest. It's as simple as you would NEVER see someones clothes stay in perfect condition if they were to do things like:

-walk 20km

-do the same thing as #1 but with it raining

-a feral zombie punching, scratching, or slapping you

-getting shot multiple times by a bandit who wants your beans

-etc..

Now, I do disagree with weapon degradation upon usage if it were to the extent of Fallout (3 or New Vegas). And most people kill someone because they might have something you don't own and/or desire to have. It MIGHT not solve the KoS problem in DayZ, but it will at least be an effort to do so. It'll be a LOT better than what we have now. I'm gonna go ahead and use that same phrase for every idea rocket has for Standalone. Sure the ideas might not suit everyone, but it's MUCH better than what we have now.

So this is... What, exactly? An anti - suggestion?

If you're main goal is simply to block a specific idea, then you aren't really making a suggestion; you're simply making a criticism of a product you haven't even tried yet.

I like the idea, it might actually increase the chance of some interaction instead of KOS.

It just needs some tweaks, I would also like some weapon damaged by and area stuff aswell.

Zombies should make bloody claw marks, bullets make gunshot wound.

I still don't see a reason for players to interact...this would be more of a reason to shoot eachother because now not just food and weapons are rare but clothing, too. So now you run around with a backpack full of weapons, ammo and food supplies and a plastic bag full with spare shoes and clothes...Do you really think players will start sharing if they just shoot others out of fear or for KoS?

Okay, just because you don't see it doesn't make you the authority. Either way, item and clothing degradation is authentic. Things break all the time.

Whenever someone is going for a shopping and think about buying cloths like t-shirts manufacturer, shirts there are so many things that we always need to consider:

Material
Design/Colors
Quality
Brand
Price

You have a good point.

Most players aren't interested in Lott at all.

They shoot out of fear of loosing in a battle of wits and trickery that often comes with interacting.

But they mostly fear being served up a dish of their own medicine, instantly killed, no chance to explain or reason, just a hail of automatic fire.

You have to remember though things will be much rarer on the server side spawning.

There won't be a new spawn of stuff in every town you enter.

90% of the food will be gone in the first couple hours, you can probably guarantee that if a player has come across a can of beans they'll have picked it up. You however want to make sure everything on that guy is intact, so you mug him.

KOS people won't survive they'll simply be running on empty.

However I have concerns that hero's will suffer similar fates.

Maybe heroism will be reserved for late game Funtime when you can afford it.

But then if there is a hero endgame there would also be a KOS endgame.

And that's right where we started... But now its not really an option untill endgame, to prosper you have to be a thief, use intimidation and not killing power.

It's moving towards the physiological battle IMO.

I support weapon degradation on use, and really believe it will help with KOS. People who have found a sniper will only be able to use it till it breaks and not just until ammo runs out. Also this makes guns a consumable....a lot of bandits will get a rifle from an airfield then never visit a weapon spawn again until they die. Making you need another m24 to repair your current one pushes the bandits back off the coast and up to the high value spawns again.

Too me its not so much that they wont shoot you because they don't want to damage there gear, but that the dynamic of the game will change slightly keeping them away from the coast, and where they should be, up north near the resources they need.
