Allow chat and voice while incapacitated Teamspeak renders this pointless and unfair to unaffiliated players.

Recommended Posts

Any clan or regular on a dayz server WILL have teamspeak mumble or some other voip client. and i mean WILL not might. i personally belive that it is no longer viable or even fair to disable chat and voice when a player is knocked unconcious. this current implimentation simply doesent prevent people from calling for help if they have a voice client and provides a unfair handicap to players that do not have said client eg new players on a server or those unaffiliated with a clan.

That's difficult to prevent. Wth ACRE which was bound to TS and ArmA your mike was muted when you were unconcious or dead so that would work but i don't know about the other 3rd party voice programs. It can't work on a voluntary basis because i know every player wants to get the most advantage he can.

If you were able to add an ACRE like plugin to all voice programs via DAyZ SA who would prevent people from disabling them? You would have to make the SA use a forced system ( so it can't be undone without consequences like a player getting kicked when he turns it off ) like that to prevent players from having an advantage if unconsious when they play with teammates.

Also if players actually were to use TS and ACRE as a voice program for everyone you would need to have all players in on TS and in one channel. And with a lot of players having their preferences in voice programs that's an impossible task. Blocking the use of VOIP other than the in game one is something only the developer can do if they wanted.

Iv always just used steam to txt my teammates, but if anyone can just download and use TS is it unfair that you carnt use ingame voice? Just get TS lol. Besides when your knocked out you scream and moan on the floor, that's usualy enough to locate a teammate ingame regardless of voice of other programs.

Could they not achieve absolutely no voice when incapped by locking all keyboard input when you go down. So even the voip software dosent recognise the key press?

I don't know about the mouse button but it is possible to block all keyboard input.

Most people don't use push to talk in TS, it has pretty good voice activation.

Couldn't they still detect that something is beeing sent, there is still an activation signal.

to be honest getting rid of the unconcious muting is the best solution because it evens the playing field and first and formost dayz is a game so realism is bendable

additionally anyone could just run TS in sandboxie and the memory isolation would prevent any plugin from even knowing it is running and also block any attempt at memory injection that would disable Ts

as for disabling all keyboard that would be borderline illegal as it would prevent a user from controlling their computer without their permission. this kinds of shit is the terratory of viruses and malware GTFO.

instead of looking for new and improved ways to fuck people over just even the playing field by removing the feature that 90% of people dislike

With your definition every game is quite illegal. I don't remember a game that doesn't block certain keys or actions so you can't use them until the program tells you you are advanced enough so now you can jump f.e.

You can't criminalize games blocking controls or even fading the screen to black as "part of the story" if the devs see it as necessary.

@ enforcer

Disabling keys ingame is not what he was suggesting. he was suggesting globally locking the keyboard meaning you could not even alt-tab to another window or force terminate the client. imagine if the game glitched out after all it is ARMA based you would be effectivally locked out of your entire computer system untill you hard booted loosing any other open windows in the background. but you would realise this if you had bothered to actually read

If I pay for a TS server, yeah I should be able to communicate with my buddies. Plus, people would just find another way to communicate (via Steam example) and on top of that I think it would be pretty hard to keep something like that out of a game. (plus it takes away from the game imo, thats why we have a TS server)

Mute the microphone on windows when players are dead :D

Yeah i've seen this issue many times in games that tried to "spice up" the ability to chat, in text or voice. People will just use a 3rd party solution if the game doesn't give them the same level of comfort.

So yeah forget about ingame radios and things like this, it's just not worth spending dev time on that with the average player "play to win" mentality.

And by that i do not mean it's a bad idea, online gaming is so focalised on playing to "win" rather than rich roleplay experiences that developping this kind of feature for them is like giving caviar to pigs.

There's no reason to restrict it, as there's always some exception that people will get around and eventually it will get to the point that preventing it becomes impractical and/or borderline impossible.
