Damage Validation System

Recommended Posts

just an idea to reduce the number of random deaths in the game. why not add a secondary script that is triggered whenever a player recieves massive damage. the script will check the cause of the damage and run it through a validation process to ensure the damage detected by the game is from a valid source eg zombie/ fall and prevent the damage / death if no valid source can be located within X radius. basically this would fix alot of the issues that cause players to randomly break legs or loose half their health by stepping off of porch stairs. the current implimentation of the game's damage system i can safley say that for every time i am killed by a zombie or a player there are 10 times where my character drops dead with no damage source in the vacinity. for exmple everyone knows the car bug where if a car is badly damaged and you go to check if it can be repaired your ejected and damaged as if you had hit a tree even though the car was stationary and turned off. a validation script would see that the cars velocity was 0 at the time and that no bullets had hit the car within the last few minutes. with that information the damage would be invalidated and your avatar would be restored.

similar system for broken bones check if the player had recieved any hits in the last few seconds and calculate the exact distance the character dropped if he fell and again reverse the damage if the distance droped could not be determined or if no hits were recorded

Which version are you playing?

Since 1.7.7, you can't break a leg from a glitch, but only from a freefall (what you described is exactly what is coded) or maybe a gunshot.

Sorry, I don't understand your car issue. When are you ejected? when you open the menu with the parts status?

You're a bit wrong. I had my leg broken after I hid behind a tree to avoid gunfire.

I've been knocked out/badly hurt/legs broken by a friend running too close to me in 1.7.6

what happened is i came across a car on the side of the road and it was missing some tires. i got in to check the damage and without starting the car the car bursed into flames ejecting and killing me basically the car had spawned in with 100% damage to something but hadent blown up untill someone actually tried to get in. which should never happen

Yes. It's glitchy. We know. Not that your suggestion is necessarily a bad one, but I'm just not sure if it's technically possible. It might cause you to become invincible at times when you shouldn't be, which would also be bad.

so your saying hackers spawn random vehicles that explode as a trap for innocent survivors?? that is truly low  XD

@SalamanderAnder

that might not be a bad thing the game is so stacked against the players that i dont think getting lucky by some mirical of a script reversing your damage would be unbalanced as youll have died many times between encountering these lucky bugs

@Lady kyrah

the thing is that the standalone might not be the endall because even when the SA comes out it will be a while before the maps and current 3rd party gamemodes catch up to it. I personally wont play standalone untill epoc comes out for it

You may be waiting a long time then, community mods won't be allowed for a very long time after the initial release, if they allow them at all.

I kindly disagree. It could be just as frustrating if you tried to shoot someone and they didn't die, only to kill you. It's better to simply eradicate the bugs at their root cause than to create new code to try to check the bad code. It only makes the game more unstable and unpredictable. I'm not saying it shouldn't be fixed. I'm just saying that I don't think this is a particularly "eloquent" way of going about it, as far as programming is concerned.

Explosion is part of DayZ code to punish the player who entering in. It's plainly stupid.

The main problem here is that vehicle spawn is impossible with the provided default security filters.

Players report some problems but forget to mention where they were playing.

That's a normal ArmA bug...it's about 12yo. Nothing new actually.

And with 1000000 different DayZ versions it's impossible to find the problem...that's why i hope they forbid addons, mods and alternative versions until they either have everything under control which will take at least a year of even forever ( DayZ has a small team and BIS already needed years to make OFP run smooth, as well as ArmA 1...and ArmA 2...ArmA 3 is chaos right now...i wonder why they released it in the first place ).
