IrishHugo 75 Posted September 14, 2013 (edited) I awoke to the sound of distant gunshots and the low moans of the infected. I was where I had dropped off, an office building in Elektro, surrounded by bodies. My memory flashed back, two bandits arriving and me pumping bullets into them, then two more survivors and a swarm of infected. I managed to get to the roof and wait out the firefight, but only just. I went down to investigate and sifted through the loot, nothing good. I then went into the room that looked the most secure and tried to catch some Z's. Back in the present, I was more worried about the moans then the shots. The shots were far away, the moans near. If the infected were roused, it meant people were nearby. I made my way out onto the first floor roof and saw a survivor climb the ladder onto the hospital roof. I called out, saying I was friendly, but didn't get a reply. I was curious, and he had a better vantage point, so I decided to cross the street and get up there. I sprinted across the road and grabbed hold of the ladder onto the first storey of the hospital. While I was climbing a zombie hit me and caused me to bleed. This was worrying; while I was bandaging myself the survivor could lean out and finish me off. As Julius Caesar said, In war, events of importance are usually the result of trivial causes. A simple scratch could be my death. Luckily for me, he didn't lean over and finish me off, so I was able to climb the ladder and investigate. I peeked over the top before I went up and could see two bodies, but no living people. I hauled myself up and investigated the bodies, nothing. Once was a bandit and one was a survivor. What went on I could only imagine. That was when I heard the moans, and the zombies swarming the hospital. I leaned out and saw a female survivor being looted by a male survivor, with a British Assault Pack and an M24. I didn't have a backpack and only had a Lee Enfield, so I wanted what he had. I couldn't get a clear shot so I had to lean over and expose myself, but he retreated back into the hospital before I could get off a shot. He still did not know I was here. I lay on my stomach and waited for him to reveal himself, and I saw zombies crowd the building I myself had just left, the office. I crouched and readied my rifle, I was going to take the shot. He appeared on the top floor roof, and appeared to be scanning the area for hostiles. He still didn't see me, so I had two options: not take the shot and let him go, or take the shot and get myself a backpack and an M24. I pondered it for a short while, but I didn't have enough time to write an essay on it. I made up my mind. I took the shot. It hit him in the stomach and made him bleed. He retreated to behind the section of the building on the roof, and I thought I lost him. But he must have been new, because he showed himself on the other side, just a tiny bit, and started to bandage. I took another shot, and he fell to the ground. I pumped two more into him for good luck, and went over to investigate. I got myself his backpack, some beans, and a map. This was a great find. He had no M24 ammo on him, but I took the weapon just in case. It later dawned on me later that he was no threat at all. He was clearly a newbie, having three makarov mags but no weapon, and only having a single can of stew. Thanks to my new found map, I left Elektro and made my way up north. That was my short extract on my escapades this morning, and I posted it just as an example of why I killed on sight. For the first survivor, he had no weapons I could see, so I called out to him. I didn't for the second because I didn't want to scare him away, but the first time I saw him leaving the hospital, I knew I wanted to kill him, simply for his backpack. If he had been unarmed, I probably wouldn't have murdered him, because it would only have been a waste of ammunition. The reason I killed him is because I wanted his stuff, which was better than mine. I'm not the first to do so, and the concept is as old as man. About a month ago I decided to be a hero, I was still a survivor but I gathered together all the blood bags I could and blooded my friends when they needed it, didn't shoot survivors, only shot bandits if I was threatened. This was going well, but I was being so good and hadn't got my hero skin, after ten or so bloodbags and bandages and morhpines, and I was sick of getting shot at my survivors and not wanting to shoot back, or trying to make contact and then being lured out and murdered. I would not regard myself as a bandit, on this forum many say real banditry is not KoSing, but holding up and robbing, rather the opposite to KoSing. I was originally going to call this post "Banditry", but that wouldn't be completely accurate. So I, like many others I suspect, did not murderer for the fun of it, but simply because I wanted his stuff. Should I have tried to hold him up? Probably. But I didn't want to take the risk. After this I am going to try hold up people instead of murdering them. We'll see how it turns out. If you read that gigantic wall of text, thanks! I am interested in joining the CFP and doing articles and the like, and this is my sample of what I would be doing. I tried to explore why people KoS, but I kinda got sidetracked and maybe didn't go into enough detail. I'd love if people read it and gave me opinions on it, as I really want (constructive) feedback. Please post all feedback below, thanks for reading. Regards, Hugh. Edited September 14, 2013 by IrishHugo

weparo 613 Posted September 14, 2013 I was expecting a huge rant, lol. I liked your writing a lot, as I enjoy reading about other peoples stories and adventures in a "educaded" way. not the "I saw a guy. I went up the ladder to check. I saw another guy. I shot him" kind of way. I think you have one or two typos in there though, but nice work anyways!
IrishHugo 75 Posted September 14, 2013 Thanks Weparo, yea I like stories too, that's why I'm interested in joining the CFP. I did notice a few typos and will probably go back and change them in a bit. Leviski, I had a chuckle to myself after reading your post. An analysis of KoS would possibly be the best post ever. Frytek 130 Posted September 14, 2013 Nice story. KoS not as bad as they say lol. Being complete asshole bandit is bad, being achievement seeking hero is bad also. I like to be a bandit that doesnt kill everybody on spot. If I my potato sense tickles, telling me that dude is threat or has nice gear, I shoot. But if I feel empathy, I dont. Play your own style no matter what. Never betray once you made 'talking a bit' contact, cause that is biggest assholement IMO. Hope you succed with CFG whatever that is. IrishHugo 75 Posted September 15, 2013 Thanks Frytek, hopefully I'll be let in. I'm thinking of doing a few posts where I try my hand at being a proper bandit, just holding people up instead of murdering them. Considering I'm now at the NWAF, that should be fun. LeeHarveyEnfield 311 Posted September 15, 2013 extraordinarily long winded way of saying 'I killed for loot, maybe I should have tried robbing him without murdering?' answer??? Do whatever floats yer boat fella, me? I kill and derive both pleasure and gear from it.
IrishHugo 75 Posted September 15, 2013 Yea but "I killed for loot, maybe I should have tried robbing him" isn't a great story. A lot of novels/films can be boiled down to a paragraph, doesn't mean people say "Why isn't this a paragraph?" It was just an attempt at creating a story but also asking a pertinent question. Thanks for the answer, different people, different attitudes.

Creative writing is more than just listing a sequence of events, quick tip, have a point, it makes it so much more interesting for the reader.
entspeak 374 Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) Interesting story, but it's hard to believe with the inconsistencies. You were in Elektro, you climbed the ladder to the hospital. Once up there, you see another player below you with a better backpack and gun looting a body and then retreats into the hospital. You wait for him to reveal himself... but you don't notice him leaving the hospital? Waiting for him to reveal himself, you allow him to reveal himself and get all the way up to the second floor of the Office across the street and open courtyard before you know where he is? You kill him, take his weapon and some beans and then later that he was probably no threat because he only had Makarov mags and no weapon? I mean, it's just a bit hard to believe this actually happened. Edited September 15, 2013 by entspeak
IrishHugo 75 Posted September 15, 2013 LeeHarvey I wasn't trying to be bitchy, I'm glad you read it! It was kind of an article instead of a full on creative story, but I was using elements at the beginning. Entspeak this all actually happened, I don't know how I missed him but I was on my stomach waiting for him to come out of the hospital but I wasn't watching the utmost right window. While I was looting I noticed that he only had makarov mags but no secondary, and the M24 was out of ammo, so I presume he was new.
