Dayz holding Arma 3 back? And vice versa?

Recommended Posts

Just a curious thought that could go both ways for boths games. But for example people have requested a medical system like Dayz's medical system for years for Arma. Now when you think about it, Arma 3 may be lacking an advanced medical system because of dayz and the potential to mod dayz into Arma 3 causes this. Other things too like proper body armor and things like handcuffs. This issue could go both ways and prevent both games from being the best they can be.

They don't hold each other back, but they do make each other look bad. But, it's two different games trying to achieve different goals.

No, two different games! Arma 3's problem is its too realistic in a world which wants quick action.

DayZ's issue is we are all still waiting.

Hello there

Note that this Q. came from a topic over at our cousin BiS's  forum.

Lets show that we can deal with the Arma3 vs Dayz thing with intelligence and sobriety.

Hello there

I dont think that the devs only had "one" system and had to decide in which game to put it, rather advances in DAYZ may push the A3 devs to use their code and visa versa.

I can only see the games complementing eachother rather than hindering eachother.

At the very least, development of both simultaneously allows for exploration of more ideas.

It's also an advantage to be able to learn from each other's mistakes.

What about feature sharring with features like the medical system from Dayz for Arma 3 and the underwater aspect or physx for dayz? Edited by ProGamerGov

All the assets are property of BI, so they can cherry-pick what they like from where they like.

I don't follow ArmA 3 development, so your guess is as good as mine when it comes to specifics. But from an outsiders point of view, it makes sense to take both titles in different directions while things are still in heavy development and subject to change at any point.

In any case, I don't think either title is harming the development of the other.

That's pretty much how I look at it.  DayZ is still a very new thing for BIS, Arma has been around a long time.  Only time will tell if DayZ assets/mechanics/ideas will filter back into Arma but I'd be surprised if in time it doesn't.  Considering DayZ is barely a game yet though it's going to be a while before we know the answer.

Also, we don't know the internal politics at BIS.  There's probably some healthy rivalry between the 2 dev teams and DayZ still has a lot to prove.  If I was the the BIS CEO, for now I'd keep the two teams competing with eachother, it'll drive them both on, a bit like you would with different teams in any work place.

Anyhoo, I can only see it as a good thing for BIS.

The fact that Arma 3 is out soon, Iam guessing alot of the resources and man power behind that, will now be utilised with Dayz. IAm sure both dev teams are just excited about both games. They would be happy to be working on dayz now that Arma 3 is looking at release. Iam sure the folks which have been working on Arma 3 that are now moved over to teh Dayz Dev team, can bring a wealth of knowledge and skill to what is oing on there. What a true blessing to be able to go straight from arma 3 and work on a title like Dayz. WOuld be one of the great places to work right now I do believe.

So Rocket should give Arma 3 their clouds back?

Theres no reason why they shouldn't share systems between the games if they fit the job.

Nooooooooo, not the clouds!   I love the new clouds!

The thing is many of the new things in DayZ such as the damage models and new health system only work because of the core engine changes they've made.  For Arma to use the same features it'd have to fundamentaly change/upgrade it's engine too so if it is ever going to use these things it won't be until Arma 4 is released.....

I believe that DayZ had some impact on Arma 3 but in the end I hope that Bohemia learns something nice in the DayZ that they can port in the next Arma or in the current one. DayZ could provide for example able to make more restricted servers with higher performance. DayZ is having so big overhaul that they must learn something that they could use also in Arma.

You should see some of the post release hints for Arma 3. Like a rain system that scared the programmers and the A3 developers do want to give Arma 3 a much better medical system. But why wouldn't Dayz want the better water that Arma 3 has?

Also have you guys seen what exactly the clouds are from? It is a simulation software called TrueSky: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pnvBF5Nu5gw
