Hello fellow community, I am here of aid for an idea that I have been toying around with for quite a while. Ok, so where do I start....

 

Basically I am a longtime player of DayZ (May 2012) and am a less than great YouTuber, and I have an idea to make a show, and what better setting than DayZ? I am here looking for anybody who just loves dayz, story related episodes on Youtube, can maybe do some cool special effects (my skillset is limited), or just has ideas to throw into the pot I have going. I'd love to get some members of the community to help make this a reality.

 

Here is the premise I have thus far:

 

A main protagonist is a citizen on Island of Emita (Arma 2 mod Island Life) who is a lazy young adult with no aspirations who decides to join the military in hopes of getting action there that his lowkey life is missing. (Switch over to regular Arma 2) Once in the military our protagonist comes to learn that this was his true calling and he quickly becomes one of the most renowned members of his unit. He rides this good wave until it all turns downhill when he lets his arrogance and energy get the best of him when he moves down an entire enemy squad but also his captain as well.

 

After being dishonorably discharged from the military he has a hard time adjusting to the quiet life of being a citizen in Island Life. He soon pursues a life of crime and has many adrenaline packed encounters with police, gangs, swat, ect. After his luck runs out he is finally slammed by the police and during his stay in jail overhears about a strange virus spreading in the east. His sentence has him sent to Chernogorsk to be put in a work prison there but his flight is strangely shot down by unknown gun fire.

 

Finding himself the only survivor, he begins to travel and encounter his first zombie.

 

Here the story can really be fleshed open with all kinds of cool scenarios in DayZ. The footage would all be real gameplay, not acted, but would all play into the story. His first encounter with dangerous people, His first kill and the trauma it leaves, ect. Anything can happen, and the story can go on for long!

 

I think it is a solid idea, but it needs support from bright minds that are found on this community, who can turn this idea to an awesome show! So let me know what you guys think! I am very enthusiastic about this and would love any support/help/input.

What kind of story are you going for? The Heroic savior, The Lone bandit, the regular joe.

There are so many more, if you can find a path for your character the story will flow due to the greatness of the scenario that is "DayZ"

Me personally, I would like to see him start as regular Joe -> have a good experience and become "Savior of the living" -> After having his spirit broken becomes a lone bandit.

After that the story can go anywhere. Depends on how long and deep you want this to be.

See you are on the same train of thought as me! The options and scenarios are so vast that it could make for a really dynamic character. I would want growth in the character to change him throughout the series and again you are on the same train because I do want him to start as an average joe. One thing I certainly want is that he is flawed. I don't want him to be the perfect do good hero who saves everyone and makes no mistakes. I want him to screw up and face consequences, make hard decisions, but that doesn't mean I want a bandit who just kills. But anyways, pm me if you wanna get involved, I'd love to have a similar mind on board!(:

he starts just getting used to surviving and slowly slips into killing for his food and gear, after a near death experience does an emotional 180 and becomes a hero. not perfect but trys to avoid combat situations and help when logically its possible. i like the idea but would take a lot of doing if anyone needs it i can tell you how to get DxTory FULL for free which ive found its the best  recording software with the least lag. id love to help but my 15 year old voice wouldnt be good for a game with no 5 foot 7 people i can get guns and collect for episodes, secure places to shoot.

Yes these are all great options for the survivor, and you gave me this idea with yours above, to slowly demonstrate the protagonist losing grips with sanity and becoming more tense with each atrocity he is forced to commit in order to survive, and protect other survivors he meets and trusts. He will use these good acts he undertakes such as saving other survivors, protecting them, or sharing supplies with them as a sort of therapy to remind him that he is a good person and keep him gripped to reality. What do you guys think?

Oh yeah I have that downloaded I read some of it a while ago!! Yeah definitely could take some pieces out of it with authors permission! The part I'm worried about is the editing.

totally seems only the best make cinematics or post good gameplay. its hard to get a cult following in dayz people like frankieonpc has, but with the right concept and good execution I think this has what it takes to kick ass

If this is going ahead, I'd love to be apart of it too. Story sounds good, but I had a few suggestions, see what you think.

 

Like the fact that he joins the military and excels at it, but instead of mowing down a whole squad of enemies and his commander, how about in a hostile zone he shot a civilian or two, and was dishonourably discharged for that?

 

And with the flight to Cherno, I like that it gets shot down, could be expanded upon. Lets say there's the pilot, three guards and the main fella. The pilot gets sniped and the chopper starts going down, one of the others tries to take over but he can't in time and they crash outside of cherno. The player fell out just as it was about to crash, and is about 20m from the crash, luckily he landed in a bush so he's ok, and also hidden. The pilot and guy who tried to pilot are dead, but the two guards could be alive, but bleeding with broken legs and be calling out for help.

 

Player is about to go and help when a truck with four heavily armed bandits pulls up and starts securing weapons. The could be in a military Ural, maybe even combat clothes, suggesting they are ex military, and one of the guards thanks god and asks them for help. They then shoot him at point blank range in the head. The other guard grabs a pistol and tries to shoot a bandit, but it's out of ammo. The main bandit strolls up to the guard, takes out a baseball bat/hatchet/crowbar and starts bludgeoning him to death. If you wanted, the "main" bandit could become the main antagonist, and taking him down could become one of the primary goals.

 

I like creating stories and the like, and have a tad bit of experience with youtube, and would love to see this get going and help out with this. I'll add you on skype, maybe we could get a chat going with all the people who want to help. Lets make this happen.
