How do people make DayZ wallpapers? The artsy-looking ones.

There are many images out there with DayZ themes and I would like to know how they are made!

 

They are NOT screenshots of the game.

They look awesome and I'm wondering where people are getting them or how they're making them?

The above pic was originally a poster from something not DayZ related and then the artist (I forget his name but he's a member here) has manipulated the image and added some of his own art to it to give the impresssion that it's a scene from DayZ.

Where do they get the zombies?  Where do they get the survivors?   Is it drawn by hand with some kind of funky USB light-pen?

 

This is why I made this thread.  I'm wondering where they're getting their images to make up the image.

Depending on the artist, they'll either be drawn from scratch or manipulated existing images. Many pros use a pen, many dont :)

A bit off topic but I did some concept artwork for a HL2

It's a combo of photo/image manipulation mixed with hand-drawn images using a tablet in PS.  The things you can do in PS are only really limited by your imagination and/or talent tbh.

Yea the characters are often drawn by hand or traced photo sources. All you need is a tablet.

When rendering atmospheric scenes like that, I often do my own photography, either using a model or myself with a camera on tripod and timer, I often throw  in some cheap royalty-free stock photos, and original hand-drawn elements. Once I have the forms and backgrounds and overall lighting set, I do an overpaint to add that illustrated look. This can be photoshop but there are other,better illustration-specific programs you can use. It can be time consuming but the results are often worth it.
