HUD idea : Pleasure(satisfaction) indicator/bar

Recommended Posts

So im new here, and first thing i checked was if there will be drugs in the game (more like legal drugs, cigs and so) i found out a lot of ppl would like them, and would like to effect the gameplay  and i also think so. So i was thinking that there could be a pleasure or satisfaction indicator in the game.It could be affected not only by drugs, but by the type of food you eat for example (i would be more happy about a steak than can of sardines ) or if you kill someone that is keeping you under constant fire (hard to calculate, but hey, its just suggestion :)) and depending on how the indicator is filled, there could be benefits....

PS: also, will there be coffee, that would be cool and logic ?  (indicator of how tired you are ?? why not )

Coffee would be very rare, and so would cigarettes.

I'm pretty sure cigarettes will be one of the first things to go in the event of a apocalypse.

Also, when there's no production of coffee it will be gone pretty fast.

well, in a good established camp you could grow theese things, i dont believe in the case of zombie apocalypse that there would not be any camp/small town able to grow/produce such things (for exchange with leather, meat, clean water..u name it ). but yeah i admit it would be rare...

but how this will affect your performances?

well there could be implemented sleepy status, cause now you can be awake in the game for the whole time (days if you want) ..so  if you are sleepy for example your aim could be off a little bit, or the screen could be blurry at the corners..something like that and eventually you would pass out from beign tired...and coffee (eventualy cigs too, cause they are supportive if you are tired...im smoker i know about it :) )

Regarding tobacco and coffee. I don't imagine they'd be too much rarer than canned food and drinks.

There are obviously limited supplies, but theres also a "limited"(heh) population at this point.

There are smaller shops, which are not grocers or supermarkets, that would stock/sell tobacco, skins, cigarrettes etc. And others which would have coffee.

Some examples are newspaper shops and petrol stations. Speciality baristas, cafes and most waiting rooms (offices, hospitals, garages etc.) would have coffee.

Not to mention a LOT of folks would have either or both in their homes.

I think there could be a place for a "morale" meter, but it depends on the direction Rocket chooses to take.

It's a sim, but it's not "The Sims". :P

EDIT:

A bit later, but while I remember. I'm not keen on HUD stuff.

If anything, I'd like these stats to be hidden for the most part, with signals of some sort for reaching particular points on the scale.

Maybe an indicator in the gear menu (so it's not on the general HUD)

You can't grow coffee beans in a state similar to Russia and other parts of Europe. Plus who would plant coffee beans in a zombie apocalypse?

It's kind of a neat idea, but I don't like it. People don't need drugs (ciggs, coffee, etc) in order to stay happy, and I would hate to have to go around and loot for smokes and caffeine just to keep a "happy meter". I just think it's unfair because not everyone smokes, drinks coffee, etc. Plus those luxuries would be the last thing on many peoples mind in a post apocalyptic situation.

EDIT: Plus what would the consequences even be of not filling this meter?

I don't do anything of those things, and yet I'm happy. How can you determine how and why one finds pleasure in such things? Also, coffee and tobacco can only be grown in a specific climate. Russia does not have that specific climate.

It's not entirely about drugs and smoking. Life's little luxuries make us happy.

Everyone has their pleasurable activity of choice. Be it, food, drink, gambling.

Without these we tend to become unmotivated, which in a survival situation WILL kill you.

How this translates into gameplay would clearly require a bit of a think-tank job, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

BTW: Don't focus on growing coffee/tobacco.

Tins of beans don't grow in Russia either, but I don't hear anyone complaining about them.

If you add a pleasure meter then there has to be a way to do the "five knuckle shuffle" or fap if you so desire.

I wouldn't mind if some of the suggested items were in the game but didn't really have any effect on your character. There needs to be more reasons to just sit around camp anyway, and coffee & cigarettes (not the movie) might just be an athmospheric push in the right direction. :)

Also guitars.

ok, it has beign said here that alot of things just dont grow there and yet they are in the game...and did you oversee the little thing that i mentioned about how a fresh steak can please you more than an old can of beans ???  As Chabowsky wrote, its about those small pleasures in the postapo world that you want to enjoy..maybe not for some extreme benefits but for the feel of the good old times or something like that...and you also oversee the thing about sleeping ? how that you can not sleep for days ? unreallistic...i mean those "kicks in ya arse" to wake you up would not have been bad...but i see that it would be hard to do, lilke when you sleep ur offline or what...

I don't think a "pleasure bar" is necessary, but it would be nice if certain things like alcohol or cigarettes could numb your character temporarily if he is in pain.

I imagine in post apocalyptia, holding on to little bits of what's left of the world would be how survivors keep their sanity.

Also guitars.

Guitars, drink and card games.

It'd be like the apocalyse never even happened.

Sorry Statik, but i disagree with with you here....

I can tell you now, Apocolypse or no, god help anyone or anything within 1 click of my person, should i start suffering nicotine withdrawls....

I do like the idea as a concept, but it would definatly take some work to implement...

I guess that makes sense. I can't really be accurate as I don't smoke or drink coffee.

I just don't feel a "happy meter" is something that would work/makes any sense in a zombie game.

Yea, as a rough idea i do like it... But i also disagree with the "happy meter" part...

However, perhaps implementing a way to measure depression and having symptoms of that, which could be fixed by certain activities or items?

:) the happy meter as you call it was the super first alfa rough version that just came to my mind, sure there are more effective way to do it than with hud...the depression symptoms are good idea, like you have giving up on living..so it could affect your gameplay..

would ABSOLUTLEY love to see cigs in the game

was thinking about making a thread on them

not because I smoke, because they could be used as a currency in any type of apocalyptic world

and man oh man would it be cool to just kick back at camp and sip on your mountain dew while smoking a cig that you know it worth more than anything you have ever owned.

Cigs are also a big give away out field. IIRC alot of Americans were killed when they stepped outside their tents to have a fag in Vietnam by snipers. Also IIRC the Aussies just smoked inside.
