Mos1ey 6301 Posted July 27, 2013 How much running Boot Camp lowers performance? I don't believe it does as you only boot Windows, you aren't running dual OSs like you did with virtual machines in the past. Then again I'm a PC guy, I'm not all that clued up when it comes to Mac stuff. If you're looking to do a lot of gaming then I'd suggest going with a PC as you get much higher specs for your money, they're easier to upgrade and you have a much wider selection of games without having to mess around with Boot Camp. If it's just for general day to day use and a little bit of gaming on the side then go with whichever OS you prefer.

I'm 90% sure that you can't have a single stick of RAM (someone clear this up for me), you need 2x 4GB sticks or something like that.Other than that, that would run 30+ normal - high.

I'm 90% sure that you can't have a single stick of RAM (someone clear this up for me), you need 2x 4GB sticks or something like that.Other than that, that would run 30+ normal - high. Of course you can have just one ram module instead of two/three/four. You'll just won't be using the dual channel architecture which is like a 10% gain in memory performance. i looked it up and it said 2x4 is better than 1x8. but would 2x8 be better? Depends on the clocks/timings. But if we're talking about identical clocks/timings then yes, 2x8 are much better than 2x4. Also better for the future, the more ram you have, the less need to add more ram in a year or two etc. Just make sure that all modules are same brand, same timings, same power specs. So if you can afford it, get 2x8 modules in a bundle. If you can't, get 1x8, and start putting aside some money to buy an identical module in the next months. You probably won't even be able to run it. CPU is a little lacking and integrated graphics are horrible for gaming. Get a discrete graphics card if you can. If you do decide to do that, you'll have to upgrade the power supply to whatever wattage the video card and system needs.

No. Will run the ARMA 2 mod fine on high/very high as ARMA 2 only uses a max of 2Gb of RAM, leaving an extra 2Gb for your OS. You might want to consider another 4Gb of RAM at some point if you play other hardware intensive games and/or are planning on playing DayZ standalone though. With Skype, Chrome, and DayZ open I use about 4.50-ish GB of my RAM. So yeah, upgrade would be good to have for him/her. (I really should have went with 8GB instead of 16GB, never even get close to using a third of it.)
