IN RL hot wiring wouldn't work.  Any cars made less then 10 years ago you won't be able to hot-wire.

It's not as simple as the old fashioned "strip and cross"  or "screwdriver in key slot". but it's a car, it's not a vault, it will eventually start.

Frankly cars with a lot of electronics will be the first ones to break in real scenario, all these extra elements will impact it's reliability in a survival situation. And i mean someone who can't take your car would make sure you won't be able to use it either if he can get away with it.

Upload a video of you smashing a car window with your fist. I will not pay the hospital bill..

But a rock or 9mm should easily do the trick. So yes to hotwiring, no to keys.

EDIT: You don't really need anything to hotwire a car. All the needed wires are located inside the vehicle, behind the steering wheel in the steering collumn area.

While needing someting harder than your fist is true i doubt most of us know which cables to use to hotwire a car. Most likely they will have to look for spare fuses while trying... It couldn't work on the Suburban because it should have an engine immobilizer.

Dare I suggest a hot-wiring "mini-game".

That way peeps with the skillz and the tools can get cars going fairly quickly and peeps that have no idea what they're doing will struggle for quite a while or need to find some sort of guide or even metagame using Google etc.

On a side note - You don't really "own" anything in DayZ, you're just borrowing it for a bit.

Mmmm, a lot of problems could be solved with mini games.

People complaining about absolutely everybody being able to fly, change engines.

Personally I wouldn't like them though.

I'm not sure about them myself tbh.

Imagine for example you could open up the bonnet of a car to try and figure out what needs fixing.  When you open it you get a UI overlay and are able to use any tools you have to manipulate parts of it/fix it etc.  That could actually be fun and it would require some real world knowledge which the player would then have to either know in advance or learn.  I quite like the idea of things like that but I'm honestly still unsure if they have a place in DayZ.

Maybe....

It would be pretty fun, immersing and sometimes challenging to people who think of "repairing a car" is just plugging in the diagnose cable...until they bring out tutorials...IRL even with a repair handbook it's no guarantee that you are able to fix a vehicle putting the missing spare parts aside.

Like Skat3rat says; there are keys in Epoch and I'm not really a fan of it.

It'd be more fitting in post-apocalyptia to smash car windows and hotwire cars as opposed to have a unique set of keys that unlock it. It'd create a more interesting scenario when you get out your car too, as anyone could come and take it.

It wouldn't be out of the question by any means.

Has Rocket planned any changes to the current system.
