What drove you to this way of life?

Recommended Posts

I've been curious, what has driven all of us bandits to behave the way we're behaving?

I want to believe that most of us started out the same, with the intention of only shooting players that were threatening to us.

So what was it that drove you over the edge, into unrestrained banditry, where a person's beans are more important than their life?

For me, it was my second life. After being mercilessly executed at point blank range in one of the starting towns in my introductory dayz run, I respawned and almost immediately came across some binoculars. Like a fool, I climbed a nearby tower and took a look around. I saw a player who's name I now forget, sprinting like a fool with a swarm of z behind him. He climbed to the roof of (what I now know as) a firehouse and began to execute the z who came up after him.

Then I noticed z climbing the other ladder, and approaching him from behind. 'Survivor!' I shouted in global chat (I actually used his name, but I forget it now) 'You've got z coming up the other ladder!! Turn around!'

He did, and escaped the ordeal taking very little damage if any. Curiously, I see him then hit the deck, and begin scanning the horizons around him. My curiosity soon turned to horror, because as soon as he saw me, I saw him draw a weapon that I would guess now was a CZ550 and begin to dial me in. I sprinted for the ladder to get down from my perch, but before I could mount it I was down on the ground, 2k blood and bleeding out fast.

Two lives in, and I still hadn't fired a shot or eaten a single can of beans.

I decided right then and there, that I was never going to be the victim again. There are only 2 people I trust in DayZ, and its because I know them IRL. Anyone else that gets within 1km of me catches a round from my M107, and they very rarely even know its coming. All their beans are belong to me.

So what drove you to banditry? Or were you just born that way?

Well, it was a couple of days ago that I went through the 'change' so as to speak; I started playing dayZ say, 3 or 4 days ago. Me and one of my friends from a community were going along like newbs, getting gear and so on and simple trying to eat beans, drink pepsi and try and get the can of coke we always wanted while avoiding the zeds roaming.

During the first 3 kills or so on me, I thought it to be an accident. I quickly learned otherwise, and I became extremely cautious. Still though, It happened. After one kill where I got a good bunch of stuff with my friend, where I go around a wall and he goes through a gate, he gets shot and killed, and I kill the person whom did such an evil deed. Proceeding to grab as much of my mates stuff as my already overflowing pack can handle, I grab a couple of things from the evil man and make my way from the outskirts of cherno, my aim to be balota airfield to grab my friend before I take him inland away from the fuck amounts of bandits and other players. It turns out hes actually in cherno, and finds a friendly person whom he says im friendly also, so I go into the cafe they are in, and the friendly persons friend(mindfuck) shoots me without warning. On my friend telling him who he shot, he shoots my friend also and proceeds to loot our extremely valuable stuff.

At the point, I just switch. My friend was already thinking about it but I straightout switch. Anybody I see now that isn't my friend or my other mates, gets shot. Though most of the time I let noobs go off, though one time one pulled out a hatchet on me but quickly got a slug to the face, which just made me even more angry.

In the end, I am now a crazed man bent on killing people who aren't my friends to get whatever they have, though mainly the pasta.

Nope. :P

I play this way because the notion of ambushing actual players, to me, is the sandbox. Shooting NPCs (well, zombies) and just surviving and scavenging, with no end purpose.. what kind of a game is that?

I get stuff to equip me better to hunt others. Why else would I get stuff? To shoot zombies from further away? Just because it's shiny? Naaah, boring.

i get bored of not killing things, im the type of person who in fallout 3, went to megaton and killed everyone rather than just nuking it, then went to every other city and killed everyone, then got bored and lonely because there were no more people to kill

It's fun. There's nothing quite as fun as sniping a panic stricken survivor knowing he's going to lose everything.

the only time i kill anyone is when i get shot at first, they dont respond within 10-20 seconds of me talking to them or they sneak up on me
