How hard would it be for walker zombies?!!

Recommended Posts

Been a long time since I messed with any files or code of BIS stuff, we used to mod Operation flashpoint back in the day which was fun as hell.

So I direct this question to the folks that would be much up to date on this stuff. I have heard of a "walking dead" sort of idea where you add more zombies then slow them down to walkers, to give the world a "walking dead" feel as apposed to a "28 days later" feel with running infected.

BUT would it be, at all possible, to some how rip the walking zombies animations from the UNDEAD MOD from arma2 (seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuvttFLgIB8 ) and place them into a dayz mod ? In that way having three different walking animations and zombie types, hence mixing it up a bit in the world. Just curious is all :)

Why have lots of not so challenging walking zombies if you can have lots of challenging fast zombies?

Its more for the Atmosphere I guess.

They would need tweaking and extra damage and such, so if they ever did get to you then you would be pretty much done. I dont know, have always wanted to see what it would be like to play in the dayz world with "walking dead" of "Romero" style zombies. THEy dont have to be snails, just slower and greater numbers that never stop coming.

Maybe have it so they can hear you from great distances, and once on your tail, they never stop coming to you, unless they get distracted by another player thats closer. You could never settle anywhere and you would always be on the run it would seem.

I dont know, somtimes the "slow burn" grants a deeper feeling of dread than the "firebrand" of adrenaline. Both have their place in the Dayz universe!

With enough of these walking zombies to actually be a threat on the map even the most beastly PCs would struggle to hit 30 FPS because of the sheer amount of AI, lol.

Great idea, would improve a lot, but how many realistically could you have on a map?

Good question, It would have to be done with good smoke and mirrows. They spawn in mass numbers when your around, and despawn in mass numbers when you leave, with a certain percentage of those that you have agroed, which would continue to follow you over great distances. IAm more interested if we could port over the animations of the zombies from the Undead mod. That woud be very cool

True that, would bring it to its knees.I would rather make it a single player or small group world and just for shits and giggles. I am more interesed if the animations CAN be ripped from one and placed in the other.

It has been tested but is on hold due to performance issues, as mZLY pointed out.

Just meandering their way home.

oh that's an old video but often brought in this kind of discussion..

i think the slow ones would be just ignored by players pvping around..also today you can fire-move-fire-move minimizing aggro problems,

i feel that the game's atmosphere should go in the: ''you-fire-you-get-hammered-by-rushing-infected'' direction more than the ''mmm-zombies-slowly-coming-let's-forget'em-for-a-minute-while-i-put-down-this-guy'' one

Dayz is intended to be realistic and hard. If you replaced the current "infected" with Undead, then it's no longer DayZ. It'd just be another WarZ, nothing beats having a few screaming, raging figures running at you at night. Besides, it really takes away from that atmosphere if you've just got slow zombies, if you've got fast zombies, it feels more realistic. It actually doesn't feel realistic, hard or creepy when you've got some slow idiotic dudes who just shamble around and act as target practice. So, no.

Thats cool, but what I am really just asking is if it would be at all possible to bring over zombie animations from the undead mod to Dayz at all? This is not a suggestion or a proposal or even a debate on fast vs slow zombies. I just want to know about the animation swap possiblities :)

Yes.

I'd like that. These walking zombies would have more of an ability of spotting survivors running around and would attract the running types which could make the walking types more of a threat.

It might be challenging with headshots only, and large detection radius so you can be easily cornered.

But it might be easier than you think when you know the map as you would hardly ever be caught out, and when you are you can just walk around them.

It would be much more long term survival though, you would only die when out of ammo of out of food.

I'd only be happy with Walker zombies if they're like regular infected. Can die like a normal human but can spot players at a longer distance and call the faster infected in, like the other guy said. They could be like the older, feeble infected
