Is it just me or does nobody really play "Vanilla" DayZ anymore?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is something obvious, I haven't been playing in a long time and when I come back, it seems like I can't find hardly any servers reasonably close to me running regular DayZ with a decent amount of people.

Am I doing something wrong? Using SIX to find servers.

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, it's been a while.

I usually play on the NZ-20s servers, they are all vanilla but if my Internet is being a douche, I just play on server with the lowest ping.

And that usually ends up being vanilla too.

Vanilla DayZ it's about 30% market share now, according to the top 100 you can find on Gametracker.

People got bored with vanilla, private hives exploded in numbers and then people created new mods.

Choice is good though :) play what you prefer, there's a server for everyone.

US3480 and US816 are vanilla options, we'd love to have more friends to play with!

I can vouch for US 3480, it's what me and my friends generally play on when we play vanilla and during the day (for the server) it's generally well populated.

I kind of got bored of vanilla DayZ.  I've been playing DayZ since July of last year and while vanilla is still kind of fun, I don't enjoy it as much as I use to.  To me, there isn't much else to do after I've geared up.  I could get a car, and a chopper, but I've done that so much it just doesn't give me enjoyment like it use to.

As far as public hives go, US 3480 is pretty good.  I played on it several times a few weeks ago and it was nice.  The admins seemed to be active, and I don't remember having an issue with a hacker.  The only problem I did have was that there were a ton of spawn killers.

I should have waited as I found a server just after making this topic with like 20-something people on it (this was late at night too so pretty good, plus I prefer around 30-40 people on a server ideally).

Maybe it's because I haven't done everything there is to do yet (still haven't found/repaired my own helicopter yet), but other mods for DayZ just seem further from what DayZ is supposed to be to me.

I think the server I was playing on last night may have been 3480, I think I remember an "80" in there somewhere anyway. One thing I was very pleasantly surprised to see, was that my character from literally months ago was still saved. So that was pretty cool, still got all my survival stuff and my M14 and AK-74su

My friends and I decided to give Vanilla DayZ another go last night. We hopped on US 3480. Skat3rat has it right about spawn killers. I spawned in Solnichy a few times and was wondering if I was in Cherno from all the shots flying around the city. The first time I got out of town and was headed to meet up with my friend with only a can of soda and some sardines and I think a Jerry Can when someone decided wasting most of a clip killing a fresh spawn with no weapon or backpack was worth it. It was a full auto weapon too. I don't get it.

My friend got up to one of the castles and heard a shot outside. A guy just outside went, "Friendly?" and then shot him as he was responding... and people wonder why the general rule of thumb is becoming KoS. Thank you Mr. Bandit though... you did walk right into my machete ambush even if I missed the first swing. You must have panicked at that point because I killed you in the courtyard where you had room to move and shoot me. You should have just took off running and gotten distance.

We then geared up and went hunting for more bandits so until they gear up again(which they will probably do on an empty server or their own) there will be a couple less bambi killers shooting people with DMRs. Of course I give it all of 2 hours before they are back there sniping bambies again.

It was a lot of fun. Things are a bit hard to come by in Vanilla but in many ways that makes it more interesting. Then again, I did have a guy beg me to kill him because he had no morphine and his leg was broken. He just wanted out of there and to spawn closer to Cherno/Elektro. Since he had the bandit skin.... I was willing to put him out of his misery. I've been there... broke my leg in a car crash with no morphine WAY up North a month back. Needed a wheel but no way I could shoot every zombie between me and an industrial spawn, or sneak past them all, If I could fix the car I could get somewhere I could HOPE and find Morphine and maybe get to it, but there was very little chance... then a zombie happened to wander by and help me along... Sigh.

Glad you came to play with us!  Per DayZ's loosely woven fabric of society, there are always people just looking to shoot anything that moves.  I dislike it, but understand that there's nothing we can do about it--and that it adds another element to the game.  I certainly hope the good times outweigh the bad, and you guys come back for more.

Cheers,

Jimmy

I've gone back to the vanilla hives pretty recently.  I'm partial to Dallas 264.  It's usually pretty full with 30-40 people during peak times, has decent admins who keep the sidechat talk to a minimum and so far pretty hacker free.  It has a decent enough community too (for DayZ).  That is to say not everyone will KOS.

I'm also kind of partial to the fact that the server is a couple time zones behind me so I can play after work.

Prior to that, I was partial to a private hive of 400+ cars (which spawn with guns in the trunk) servers.  I know a lot of purists don't like that style of play, but it think having all the cars gives it a sort of GTA: Chernarus style which is nice when you don't have a lot of time to spend 14 hours assembling an old ex-Soviet hatchback.

We will be back, there are more bambi slayers to find and kill. I did have a good experience with one guy. I had a Lee Enfield and he looked empty handed. He yelled out, "Friendly! Friendly!" and I didn't shoot him. I put a bit of distance between us but saw him again and I didn't even get shot in the back for not KoSing him once he was armed.

I prefer servers that have 15 to 20 people on.   As large as the map is it seems very crowded with > 25 people.  Just my opinion I've found that the Chenarus loot areas need balancing. Especially with the coastal spawning and suicides the overcrowding is very pronounced in choke points like Cherno and Electro.  Another advantage of medium pop servers is that you have a fighting chance of keeping your investment in gear and vehicles.

That being said I’ve played on US 3480.  I highly recommend the experience and the challenge that you get being a fresh spawn on a full server.  It’s very hostile and very dangerous but it’s a different kind of rush.

I only play vanilla now, as it's all about the hive.  If my chosen regular server goes down at any given time, I can at least move and continue on another one.

Just about every private hive server I tried either changed what they were running on a whim or closed down completely, which made any investment in a character pretty pointless.
